The Role:

Rakuten Kobo's mobile application team is seeking an Android Software Developer (7 month contract) to help us create and launch our next-generation, best in-class reading and listening app. You will join a diverse and talented development team dedicated to enhancing an app used by hundreds of thousands of customers worldwide.

As an experienced application developer, you will be expected to deliver clean, readable code, collaborate closely with the Android tech lead, and work seamlessly with other team members. Join us in shaping the future of digital reading and listening experiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver clean, readable code.
  • Collaborate closely with the Android tech lead and other team members.
  • Participate in planning and design discussions.
  • Follow Agile development practices and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Review code and provide constructive feedback.
  • Work as part of a team and individually with minimal supervision.
  • Break down high-level requirements into manageable tasks.
  • Identify and improve flaws or weaknesses in existing code.
  • Consider business requirements when discussing development risks and opportunities.
  • Engage in ongoing learning and discussions on development concepts and tools.

Required Skills:

  • At least 2 years' experience working with Kotlin, Java, and the Android SDK.
  • Outstanding object-oriented design, development, and coding skills (2+ years of Java or Kotlin).
  • Excellent analytical skills utilizing Computer Science fundamentals (Data Structures / Algorithms / Design Patterns).
  • Eagerness to learn new technologies.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with React or React Native.
  • Experience with MVP/MVVM/MVI design patterns.
  • Ability to write and maintain meaningful Unit tests, using dependency injection and data mocking frameworks.
