Job description

This position works out of our Montreal location in the Nutrition Division. Our nutrition business develops science-based nutrition products for people of all ages, from helping babies and children grow, to keeping adult bodies strong and active. Millions of people around the world count on our leading brands – including Similac, PediaSure, Pedialyte, Ensure, Glucerna – to help get the nutrients they need to live their healthiest life.

Under the supervision of the Abbott Nutrition Controller and Financial Planning & Analysis Manager, this role ensures appropriate integrity and reasonableness of financial data as well as compliance with Corporate and Divisional financial policies and procedures, with a profound understanding of GAAP.

This role is the key liaison between finance and the Retail team and is responsible for tracking Trade Spend

  • understanding complex business models and providing financial support to the retail sales and finance teams. This is to ensure the Division’s liability of trade spend is accurate and properly accounted for. This role is key in identifying risks, assessing assumptions and proposing recommendations and solutions to this important business spend. Also, determining the impact of trade promotion activities on strategic goals and on financial budgets while adhering to appropriate internal controls to ensure sufficient provisions for commitments made.
  • Trade spend is the amount of funds that a manufacturer spends with a retailer to promote the product in store.

What You’ll Do

Month End :

  • Perform various tasks required for month-end close to ensure accuracy and completeness of accounting records.
  • Post accurate and complete JVs within tight reporting deadlines and facilitate management review and decision making.
  • Produce and comment on month-end reporting packages as required by local Senior Management as well as ANPD vs various benchmarks.
  • Complete Trade Spend account reconciliation and provide back-up for accrual purposes.
  • Perform various tasks required for LBE submissions to ensure accuracy and completeness of expenses (sales adjustments and selling, general and administrative).
  • Upload accurate and complete expense data in Spotlight within tight reporting deadlines and facilitate management review and decision making.
  • Prepare and submit in Planful the balance sheet estimates for LBE submissions.
  • Prepare and submit to ANSC Global Capital the capital plan / LBE and expenditures on a monthly basis.
  • Produce and comment on LBE reporting packages as required by local Senior Management as well as ANPD vs various benchmarks.

Trade Spend :

  • Partner with retail team to prepare, review and submit retail account plans for the following year and trade promotion spend for all budgeting cycles.
  • Conduct monthly reviews with KAMs (Key Account Managers) to review trade spend needs and assess if budgets need to be revised and approved by Director, Retail.
  • Review if information entered in the system is as per business plan for all retail customers, promotions and settlements approved by Director, Retail.
  • Work directly with A / R department and Key Account Managers to ensure all trade settlements are aged and cleared to meet business goals. Including further analysis and validation for settlement. Ensure settlements are valid based on customer terms and approve.
  • Complete all month-end analysis and reconciliations required and provide back-up for accrual purposes.
  • Develop trade spend reporting and roll-out on a monthly basis.
  • Manage retail trade funding to meet spend requirements.
  • Financial liaison for communications between the Retail and Marketing teams.
  • Provide expertise to the sales division on P&L expense classifications.
  • SME and key process owner for Retail team and Credit team with regards to planning, promotions, settlements, programming, testing and ad hoc issues regarding CPGVision software for all stakeholders.
  • Conduct monthly reviews with Sales management to inform them of where trade spend is and discuss as a team if new programs could be conducted with the left-over funds or rework spend for better effectiveness.
  • Lead, analyze and present trade spend consolidated summary to Senior Retail Management.
  • Produce and comment on Trade Spend as required by ANPD – DVP Controller and Senior Finance Manager Division FP&A.
  • Work on and / or lead special projects and analysis as required.

Ad-Hoc :

  • Prepares ad hoc analysis. Must be able to analyze and interpret data and make recommendations for commercial cross-functional areas including Controller and General Manager.
  • Lead special projects and analysis as required, report findings to Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis.

Required Qualifications :

  • CPA required due to financial accounting expertise and necessity to support decisions & analysis
  • 5 - 8 years previous experience
  • Strong knowledge of Excel
  • Knowledge of Abbott ERP systems recommended (SAP, Spotlight)
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Perform responsibilities with minimum supervision
