Job description

Reporting to the Manager, Policy Risk, the primary responsibility of the Policy Risk Analyst is to evaluate the potential insurance risks associated with pet health insurance policies. The Policy Risk Analyst will examine and analyze veterinary medical records, making necessary adjustments to policies, which may include adding exclusions to new policies or modifying or removing exclusions from existing policies. This role is essential in maintaining risk levels within acceptable and manageable limits for Petline Insurance.

To support effective and efficient risk assessments of pet health insurance policies, the Policy Risk Analyst is expected to possess a solid understanding of veterinary medicine, particularly regarding canine and feline anatomy and physiology, as well as techniques for diagnosing and treating injuries and diseases. Knowledge of treatment modalities, including pharmaceuticals and their interactions, alternative treatments, and preventive health care practices is essential for this position. Additionally, the Policy Risk Analyst should be familiar with the regulatory requirements and legislation pertinent to veterinary clinics and professionals.

What can you expect in this role?

Policy Risk Analysis

  • Support sustainable and profitable business outcomes by reviewing veterinary medical records to identify potential risks and their severity and adjusting new and existing pet health insurance policies as necessary.

Quality & Customer Support

  • Consistent policy risk analysis and decision making that align with established business procedures and policies.
  • Offer specialized guidance and support for risk assessments and policy parameters to cross-functional teams at Petline, such as Insurance Advisors, Territory Managers, and Claims Adjusters.
  • Engage with the Manager, Policy Risk and/or the Petline Veterinary Medical Director to seek their input and guidance on complex risks and customer complaints.
  • Facilitate a positive customer experience by engaging in discussions regarding policy risk assessment results with customers and veterinary clinic staff.
  • Prepare and distribute official policy documents to policyholders.

Compliance & Innovation

  • Remain informed about current trends in veterinary medicine, as well as updates to regulations and standards in the field.
  • Adherence to relevant insurance regulations and compliance standards specific to Property insurance, with relevancy to pet insurance.
  • Propose and document suggestions for enhancing or optimizing workflows and processes.

Continuous Improvement

  • Assist in gathering requirements, creating or modifying processes, and conducting readiness activities related to the policy risk analyst role.
  • Implement veterinary continuing education knowledge to enhance job performance.

What do you bring to the role?

  • Graduation from an accredited Veterinary Technology program
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a veterinary practice, preferably small animal
  • Bilingual French/English required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in French and English
  • Professional, friendly, and courteous in all interactions with colleagues or customers
  • Capable of working independently without supervision and collaborate effectively within a team environment
  • Proven commitment to achieving individual and team goals
  • Proficient in applying critical thinking techniques

High degree of proficiency with English and French required to service customers, both internal to the company and external, across Canada.

Salary Range: $50,200 - $92,500
