The Opportunity

Job Title: Analyst, Pension Investments

Department: Pension Investments, Emera Corporate

Location: Halifax, NS

Emera’s subsidiaries sponsor several pension plans with assets of approximately $4B. The Pension Investments Team, within Emera’s Finance department, provides services to these pension plan subsidiaries.

The team advises pension committees and boards, managing investment programs and governance, working with internal groups and external service providers, including investment managers, to ensure asset management aligns with policies, legislation, and industry best practices.

As the Analyst, Pension Investments, reporting to the Director, you will be a key team member, collaborating with external providers and stakeholders across Emera.

Accountabilities:
  1. Coordinate and document research, monitoring, and due diligence activities on pension portfolios.
  2. Monitor and report on investment performance, compliance, risk, and proxy voting.
  3. Prepare quarterly materials for pension committees and boards.
  4. Conduct research to improve investment strategies and team processes.
  5. Support projects like asset-liability studies and manager searches, providing analysis and recommendations.
  6. Assist in pension fund management, including cash contributions, rebalancing, and benefit payments.
  7. Support operational, administrative, and governance activities of the pension plans.

Travel, including domestic and international, is expected, with approximately 20-25 days annually, planned in advance.

Skills for Success:
  • Relevant undergraduate degree; graduate degree or CFA considered assets.
  • Experience in investment research, monitoring, due diligence, financial modelling, or asset-liability studies is advantageous.
  • Other related education and experience may be considered.
