About the Role:


The Pension Investments Analyst will play a key role in the finance operations of the Canadian Utilities and ATCO Structures & Logistics defined benefit and defined contribution pension plans.


The successful applicant will have the opportunity to join an engaging and impactful team, while playing a pivotal role in the development and implementation of pension investment strategies and pension fund operations across multiple asset classes and geographies. Additionally, this role offers the chance to work with external investment professionals and collaborate with various teams and leaders within the organization.


What You Will Do:

  1. Pension Investment Oversight
  • Assist with ongoing pension investment and portfolio strategy research
  • Prepare daily economic funded status reports for DB Plans
  • Prepare monthly investment performance reports for DB and DC Plans
  • Coordinate re-balancing trades
  • External Relationship Management
    • Maintain master contact list for pension service providers and investment managers
    • Build and maintain productive relationships with service providers
    • Coordinate meetings and schedules for the pension investment team
  • Retirement Programs Support
    • Support ongoing retirement program initiatives for the pension plans
    • Assist in creating financial education materials
    • Address questions regarding investment mandates of the Plans
    • Support human resource-related pension matters
    • Collaborate with team members for cross-training and contingency planning
  • Pension Operations
    • Perform monthly cash management to maintain appropriate cash balances
    • Manage plan expenses, payments, reporting, and record keeping
    • Coordinate transactions via the Northern Trust Platform
    • Review and summarize asset manager reports and manage record keeping
    • Coordinate custody statement production, review for accuracy, and record keeping
    • Prepare materials for Management and Board Pension Committee meetings
    • Assist in financial reporting and statements preparation
    • Support the annual audit process
    • Maintain operational procedures and manuals
    • Complete quarterly and annual investment management surveys

    What You Bring:

    • Three to five years of relevant experience (e.g., pension operations, institutional investing, treasury, risk management)
    • Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or related field
    • Interest and knowledge in investing and capital markets
    • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Experience with cash management and financial reporting
    • Knowledge of accounting, record keeping, and audit support
    • Strong organizational skills and record keeping experience
    • Initiative, independence, and accountability
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

    Nice to Have:

    • Experience in pension investment strategies, reporting, and performance analysis
    • Familiarity with Bloomberg
    • Relevant certifications such as CFA, FRM, CTP, or ongoing studies
