Job summary

University of Guelph is seeking an Analyst III, Financial Systems to join the Enterprise Applications team. You will design, implement, and support Finance systems, including cloud-based SaaS platforms and in-house applications, while ensuring security and data integrity across multi-system environments.

The role involves working with ERP modernization, integrations, and DevOps processes to deliver robust financial solutions for campus operations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Technology/Systems Engineering and 4+ years of related work experience with enterprise systems in multi-system environments, preferably in Finance in higher education.
  • Experience supporting complex enterprise financial systems or ERP platforms, including configuration, integrations, reporting, data validation, change management, release management and production support.
  • Experience with system and integration design, including APIs, web services, middleware, data transformation frameworks, and vendor-managed SaaS platforms.
  • Knowledge of relational databases, SQL, enterprise data management practices, and data-driven decision support.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) with ability to work with business clients and technical teams.
  • Analytical ability and thorough understanding of large-scale IT applications.
  • Software development experience through all stages of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Experience with enterprise integrations and data ecosystems, APIs, data transformation, and analytics platforms (asset).
  • Experience with Finance SaaS ERPs and on-premises Oracle/E-Business/Databases (asset).
  • Experience delivering working software using Agile DevOps processes (asset).

Responsibilities

  • Support design, implementation, configuration, and evolution of Finance systems including cloud-based SaaS platforms and in-house applications.
  • Support ERP modernization and lifecycle activities: release assessment, regression testing, configuration support, vendor coordination, deployment planning, post-release stabilization.
  • Support integrations and data solutions across finance systems and related platforms (APIs, middleware, ETL/ELT, data warehouses).
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across application, integration, and data layers in multi-system environments.
  • Provide technical support for University Financial applications (e.g., .NET, Oracle APEX, Oracle E-Business Finance).
  • Deliver software and process updates to Financial Services using Azure DevOps and DevOps practices.
  • Implement change requests across SDLC with appropriate approvals and controls.
  • Create and monitor data exchanges with external and campus partners using SQL workbench and ETL/ELT tools.
  • Ensure stability, security, and privacy of Financial systems and information during updates.
  • Document business processes and changes with PMO guidance.
  • Collaborate with Financial Services clients to gather requirements and document workflows.

General Purpose

Computing and Communications Services (CCS) is the central IT department at the University of Guelph, providing core IT services and technology solutions to the U of G community. Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Product Manager (HR/Finance/Databases), Enterprise Applications, the Analyst III, Financial Systems will play a critical role as a member of our Enterprise Applications team supporting the University’s Financial Services department and Finance systems.

This position draws upon a range of skills including solutions design, application development, application configuration and maintenance, customer service and technical support, change management, business analysis, agile project management, and a broad technical skill set to deliver quality service to the campus community. A successful candidate works closely with other teammates, building relationships and collaborating to achieve team goals.

The successful candidate will be tasked with:

  • Supporting the design, implementation, configuration, and ongoing evolution of Finance systems, including cloud-based SaaS platforms and internally developed applications.
  • Support ERP modernization and lifecycle activities, including SaaS ERP release assessment, regression testing, configuration support, vendor coordination, deployment planning, and post-release stabilization.
  • Supporting integrations and data solutions across finance systems and related enterprise platforms, including APIs, middleware, ETL/ELT processes, data pipelines, reporting platforms, banking interfaces, procurement, HR/payroll, research administration, identity/access and data warehouse environments.
  • Supporting complex, multi-system environments, including diagnosing and resolving issues across application, integration, and data layers.
  • Providing technical support for University Financial applications and services, including applications built in Microsoft .NET, Oracle APEX and Oracle E-Business Finance.
  • Delivering software and process updates to Financial Services using an agile DevOps process working with tools such as Microsoft Azure DevOps.
  • Implementing change requests on the University Financial systems following all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle, including making programming changes.
  • Implementing software quality assurance and continuous integration processes during development, including unit tests, integration tests, data validation tests, and working with Financial clients to create functional User Acceptance Testing plans, and executing the identified test cases.
  • Creating and monitoring data exchanges to both external and campus partners, leveraging standard SQL workbench and ETL/ELT tools.
  • Ensuring that development and system updates factor in the stability, security and privacy of Financial systems and information.
  • Configuring Financial systems and developing Financial custom software following change management processes with appropriate approvals and controls.
  • Utilizing the Project Management and Business Analysis frameworks provided by the PMO.
  • Working with Financial Services clients to document business process workflows and requested changes.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Technology/Systems Engineering and 4+ years of related work experience with the support, implementation, enhancement, and lifecycle management of enterprise systems in complex, multi-system environments and supporting components preferably in the Finance domain, in higher education, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience supporting complex enterprise financial systems or ERP platforms, including application configuration, integrations, reporting, data validation, change management, release management and production support.
  • Experience with system and integration design, including APIs, web services, middleware, data transformation frameworks, and vendor-managed SaaS platforms.
  • Knowledge of relational databases, SQL, enterprise data management practices, and the use of data to support reporting, analytics, and operational decision-making.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) with ability to work effectively with both business clients and technical team members.
  • Analytical ability and thorough understanding of large-scale information technology applications.
  • Software development experience, through all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Any experience with the following will be considered an asset and should be highlighted in your application:

  • Experience with enterprise integrations and data ecosystems, including APIs, web services, data transformation processes, reporting or analytics platforms.
  • Experience supporting the implementation, delivery, and support of Finance SaaS ERPs such as SAP S/4HANA, Workday Financial Management, Oracle Fusion Cloud, Microsoft Dynamics or comparable ERP.
  • Experience supporting on-premises Finance ERPs such as Oracle E-Business Suite Financials and other Oracle Technologies such as Oracle Databases, Oracle APEX, Oracle Reports and Oracle PL/SQL
  • Experience delivering working software using Agile DevOps processes.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure DevOps, Microsoft C#/.NET development, and Microsoft SQL Server, version control tools such as Git.
  • Change management experience in an enterprise application environment including release management across development, test and production systems and maintaining related documentation.
  • Business process analysis and/or software design experience, creating Use Cases, creating and executing User Acceptance Testing plans.
  • Experience with Project Management methodologies and participation on project teams.
