Job description

This on-site position presents an opportunity to participate in a growth-oriented business, and to make an impact on the renewable energy industry. This position is ideally suited to a knowledgeable, career-oriented professional seeking a challenging opportunity.

Reporting to the Manager, Generation and Optimization, the Analyst, Generation and Optimization will be a member of the Generation Asset Management team, whose mission is to evaluate, monitor and improve performance of renewable energy assets to protect and enhance revenues while ensuring compliance with best industry practices, internal policies, regulations and laws. The team is responsible for wind, solar, hydropower and batteries power forecast and evaluations, in support of multiple business processes including commercial development, business development, regulatory, environmental compliance, climate change impacts and more. The Senior Analyst/Engineer is expected to have the skills, experience and confidence to complete analyses with limited oversight and support Analysts in their work.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate generation capabilities, resource management and market opportunities of existing and planned assets;
  • Provide power modeling expertise to Commercial and Business Development, Regulatory and Marketing activities;
  • Forecast long-term resource availability and generation profiles and evaluate risk and probabilities of occurrence;
  • Support various company initiatives related to impacts of climate change, climatology and regulation on power production;
  • Develop new, and optimize current, tools and processes to improve generation planning and resource management;
  • Monitor and maintain asset characteristics database related to power generation and resource forecast and management;
  • Support performance engineering and regulatory compliance;
  • Identify means to seize further electricity market opportunities and enhance revenue.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Renewable Energy or related Engineering field (or foreign degree equivalent);
  • Graduate degree in a relevant field is an advantage.

Required Experience

  • At least 3 years of professional experience performing analytical, scientific and engineering roles in renewable energy resource assessment.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge in renewable energy (hydro, solar and/or wind) generation modeling, monitoring and evaluation;
  • Advanced skills in programming (e.g. Python is preferred, R, VBA etc.);
  • Advanced knowledge in the forecasting of renewable energy resources;
  • Understanding of the power grid, markets, and related regulation;
  • Advanced problem-solving skills, particularly through data analytics and modeling;
  • Advanced skills with MS Office, particularly Excel;
  • Skilled in building and using dashboards and means to express data and results (Pivot Tables, Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of database management (e.g. SQL, Databricks, etc.);
  • Ability and enthusiasm to build professional relationships in a multidisciplinary team;
  • Project management competency is a advantage;
  • Willing and able to travel for short periods, most notably within Canada and the USA;
  • Strong communication skills
