Full Stack Engineer – Data Cognition Team

About the Role

We are seeking a talented and experienced Full Stack Engineer to join our Data Cognition Team at BMO Capital Markets. As a Full Stack Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and implementing solutions that drive business growth and deliver value to our clients across business units in Investment Banking and Global Markets. You will work closely with the AI team to design, develop, and deploy scalable, customizable, and data-centric products, ensuring seamless integration and outstanding user experiences across the entire stack.

The Data Cognition Team (DCT) at BMO Capital Markets offers a scalable, customizable, and sustainable suite of core AI-enabled products for various business units. With access to the latest data and analytics applications, we develop products that solve the most challenging business problems. Our methodology drives strategic processes impacting multiple business units, including Investment Banking, and Global Markets.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize advanced knowledge of design and analysis methodologies to work in a full stack team and demonstrate excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Develop robust and scalable web applications using modern web development tools, libraries, and frameworks to integrate data and services across different business units.
  • Design appealing web user interfaces, leveraging modern UX design principles.
  • Adopt virtualization techniques like Docker and Kubernetes to deploy modularized applications.
  • Make data accessible in a useful format to end users through web applications and APIs.
  • Implement and monitor complex data/ML workflows, ensuring efficiency and reliability.
  • Use SDLC tools and agile methodologies to manage development processes.
  • Communicate closely with stakeholders to understand their needs and develop solutions.
  • Deploy solutions in a cloud environment, optimizing performance and scalability.
  • Implement observability and monitoring solutions, ensuring comprehensive monitoring of system performance and health.
  • Implement robust testing frameworks to assess performance, reliability, and scalability under various conditions.
  • Utilize AI-driven data quality techniques to ensure high-quality data and services, mitigating reputation risk.
  • Stay updated with the latest research and tech best practices to improve applications.

Qualifications:

  • University degree, graduate school in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Science, or other Quantitative disciplines.
  • Strong programming skills: Experience in building quality code, familiarity with multiple programming languages (Python, C#, Scala, etc.) and eagerness to learn new ones.
  • Strong web app development knowledge, preferably with leading web development libraries and frameworks (React, Next.JS, Flask, FastAPI, etc), and experience of building systems in different architectures (micro-services, multi-tier, event-driven, etc).
  • Experience in open-source technologies and modern data architectures.
  • Comfortable with solving problems at scale and productionizing data pipelines.
  • Ability to investigate phenomena, formulate hypotheses, and learn from data.
  • Team-oriented, comfortable sharing ideas and working effectively with others.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and business stakeholders.
  • Financial domain knowledge is a plus: Familiarity with investment banking concepts, financial markets, risk assessment, and trading strategies. Understanding of financial data formats (e.g., time series, tick data).

The salary range for this role is $90,000 up to $120,000 CAD (subject to negotiation and subject to the candidate meeting the specific skills, experience, education, and qualification requirements)

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked.
