Environmental Analyst (Fixed-term, 18 months)

We are looking for an Environmental Analyst to assist with incident tracking, permitting, regulations and compliance reporting. The analyst will also assist with both administration and implementation aspects of our license to operate at the BC Works Aluminum Smelter & Kemano Power Operations. This role is on a fixed-term of 18 months.

Reporting to the Environmental Team Lead Senior Advisor and working in a diverse team within Rio Tinto on a Monday to Friday schedule, you will be:

  • Assisting in the development and implementation of systems, programs, and tools to improve environmental performance at the sites.
  • Assisting with quality control and timely submission of data and legal reporting and interface with community stakeholders and regulators
  • Promoting environment policies and protocols with all team members at BC Works
  • Overseeing and supporting the Document management system (i.e.: Risk Register, Incident Reporting, Site Investigations)
  • Assisting with ISO14001 and ASI certification requirements
  • Assisting with implementation and communication of Environmental Standards and Systems in line with the Rio Tinto HSE strategy and associated plans.
  • Supporting a variety of environmental audits and inspections including for reduction and others industrial areas with PPE
  • Performing monthly and annual monitoring of various metrics and key performance indicators to external and internal stakeholders
  • Monitoring all relevant Environmental Regulations for changes, amendments, etc.
  • Providing information for quarterly HSE reviews and ad-hoc dashboards, meetings, etc.

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Post-secondary education in Environmental Sciences or related field (B. Sc is preferred)
  • Minimum two years of experience in a similar industrial setting (mining, processing, manufacturing, or related setting)
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and statistics
  • Team-oriented, collaborative, and ability to engage with others
  • A valid Drivers’ license (minimum of “N”)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

The base salary range for this role is $88,000 - $133,200 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
