Kinectrics is searching for an intermediate Analyst/Engineer to join our highly specialised team. The successful candidate would be a motivated engineer with expertise in fracture mechanics, structural integrity assessments, experience in the application of codes and standards (e.g., CSA and ASME) and proficiency with advanced engineering software tools such as ANSYS or ABAQUS for fracture mechanics and structural analysis. The ideal candidate will bring advanced analytical skills, practical engineering judgement and experience applying statistical methods to engineering problems.

Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact
  • Perform fracture mechanics evaluations, fatigue life assessments and crack growth modelling for pressure boundary components and safety structures.
  • Conduct structural integrity assessments using deterministic and probabilistic methods.
  • Apply and interpret industry codes and standards (ASME Section XI, API-579)
  • Develop finite element models in ANSYS or ABAQUS to support stress analysis, fracture mechanics and crack propagation studies.
  • Develop computer programs, mathematical modelling, and numerical simulations to drive the work.
  • Perform statistical analysis or uncertainty analysis to support structural reliability evaluations.
  • Provide support to clients in the nuclear sector in areas of life cycle management, engineering program development, component condition assessments, and other work related to long-term component integrity.
  • Prepare technical reports suitable for submission to clients and to nuclear regulators (for example, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission).
  • Ensure clients and supervisors are provided with timely and accurate project information and status updates.
  • Assist in developing proposals for internal/external customers and communicating/coordinating contracts with outside contractors/suppliers when required.
  • Provide project management support for small to medium size projects as required.
What You Need To Succeed
  • 3-8 years of experience in the nuclear power industry is preferred; however exceptions can be made for highly qualified candidates.
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or Engineering Science.
  • Graduate-level studies (Master’s or PhD) in one of the specialized areas is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience examples in fracture mechanics, structural integrity, or fitness for service engineering.
  • Advanced knowledge of fracture mechanics principles, crack growth modeling and material degradation.
  • Proficiency with FEA software.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards.
  • Eligibility for PEO License is an asset, however candidates with suitable experience and capabilities ineligible for PEO licensure are encouraged to apply.
  • Knowledge of CANDU plant systems, major components, various degradation mechanisms, inspection requirements, applicable codes and standards (e.g., N285.4, N285.5, N285.8, REGDOC-2.6.3), is preferred.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with various QA programs (ISO 9001, N299.1, N285.0).
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Advanced computer programming skills and knowledge, with experience using ANSYS APDL, Python, Matlab, Visual Basic, C++, and others.
  • Project management experience will be an asset.
  • Experience providing urgent operational support to clients and performing analysis under production pressure.
  • Willingness to adapt and learn new areas of expertise as dictated by business needs.
