  • Advanced proficiency with MS Excel, including LOOKUP/INDEX/MATCH/SUMIF/COUNTIF, Pivot Tables, VBA, and Macros.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office products (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Forms).
  • Experience analyzing data, interpreting results, identifying trends, and communicating insights clearly.
  • Experience with financial models is an asset; Power BI/Tableau/SQL/Python are assets.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian Commercial Banking products and related systems is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Support portfolio credit and compliance reporting for Senior Leadership.
  • Prepare strategic reports and industry strategy papers.
  • Develop ad hoc reports in response to economic trends and macro events.
  • Maintain credit documentation templates and related data.
  • Contribute to rollouts of initiatives with audit, compliance, and controls in mind.
  • Collaborate with Project Team Leads on initiatives.
  • Balance multiple projects with internal and external stakeholders.

ANALYST, CREDIT CONTROLS AND PORTFOLIO RISK MANAGEMENT

Purpose

The Analyst, Credit Controls & Portfolio Risk Management, contributes to the overall success and monitoring of the Canadian Commercial Banking portfolio ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed/delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.

Accountabilities:
  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk
  • Champions a high performance environment and contributes to an inclusive work environment
  • Responsible for assisting in the preparation of various strategic reports used to inform Senior Leadership, and to support projects and initiatives aimed at achieving efficient and effective credit and operational processes
  • Responsible for preparing and producing ongoing reports for Senior Leadership in collaboration with team members; including but not limited to; portfolio and compliance monitoring, industry strategy papers, and Commercial Banking lending programs
  • Creates other ad hoc reporting in response to economic trends and other macro events impacting Canadian Commercial Banking
  • Creates and maintains reporting as required by the business line for portfolio management and credit/compliance purposes
  • Performs reasonability tests to ensure accuracy and credibility of underlying data used to inform reporting
  • Supports the maintenance of all credit documentation templates and ensures documentation needs are addressed and effectively communicated
  • Supports the roll out of initiatives to ensure they are implemented efficiently within audit, compliance, and operational standards to minimize risk to the Bank
  • Supports the communication of updates or new requirements arising from completed initiatives in a well-organized manner
  • Participates and provides support to Project Team Leads on various initiatives
  • Completes other duties as assigned
Dimensions:
  • The Analyst is responsible for supporting Canadian Commercial Banking and will report to a Senior Manager, Credit Controls & Portfolio Risk Management
  • Support multiple projects and initiatives at any given time, involving numerous stakeholders both internal and external.
Education / Experience / Other Information:
  • College/University degree in Business/Commerce/Economics/Computer Science/Data Analytics
  • Highly organized and analytical with strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under tight deadlines with competing demands and priorities
  • Strong written and verbal skills with proven ability to engage stakeholders and partners
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Excel, where interaction with large datasets is common, including but not limited to Advanced Functions (e.g., LOOKUP/INDEX/MATCH/SUMMIF/COUNTIF), Pivot Tables, VBA, and Macros
  • Advanced proficiency in other MS Office products such as Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Forms, etc
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, interpret results, identify trends, and communicate insights in simple and actionable terms
  • Practical experience creating and maintaining financial models is an asset
  • Practical experience with Power BI, Tableau, SQL, Python, etc. is an asset
  • Working knowledge of Canadian Commercial Banking products, workflow processes, and systems (e.g. nCino, Salesforce, Precision Lender, CreditLens, SDR, OLL, etc.) is an asset

  • Work in a standard office-based environment
  • Ability to work non-standard hours, determined by business need
