About the Role

As a key member of our Anaesthesia team, you will play anessential role in delivering high-quality perioperative care across a range ofsurgical specialties. Working in a collaborative and well-respected team, youwill contribute to both elective and acute services, ensuring safe andeffective patient outcomes.

You will join a team of sixteen experienced and supportiveSMO colleagues and one ANZCA trainee and work alongside a highly competentsurgical and ICU team, all dedicated to excellence in patient care.

You will be working within asecondary care setting participating in the anaesthetic roster, coveringplanned care and acute theatre sessions, anaesthesia after-hours on callsupport, anaesthetic pre-assessment clinics and working as the duty anaesthetist.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Nelson’s Anaesthesia team is made up of experiencedconsultants, one registrar, and skilled anaesthetic technicians. We prideourselves on our collegial environment, with strong interdisciplinarycollaboration and a commitment to continuous learning.

Anaesthesia service provides supportto other departments including Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, GeneralSurgery, Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT, Ophthalmology, Dental, Mental Health, andthe Emergency department. The service also offers anaesthesia for visitingsubspecialty surgeons in Paediatric Surgery, Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery, Plastics,and Maxillofacial Surgery.

  • Beeligible for an Annual Practicing Certificate with a vocational scope ofAnaesthesia with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
  • HoldFellowship of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists(FANZCA), or equivalent.
  • Workwith others to promote a cohesive team culture of collaborative practice,openness, humour, and respect across disciplines.
