OSSTF-ESSP
EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT
(Daily Occasional/Long-Term Assignment)

Successful applicants can choose which AMDSB schools they’re willing to travel to and will receive assignment offers through an automated callout system.

Hours of Work: Casual/Call-in basis, Monday – Friday, from September to June (10 months)

Start Date: As soon as possible

Compensation Package Details

Daily Rate: $24.28 per hour + vacation pay as outlined in the OSSTF-ESSP Collective Agreement

Long-Term Assignment Rate: $26.56 per hour + vacation pay as outlined in the OSSTF-ESSP Collective Agreement

Pension Plan: Defined pension plan through the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Through TELUS which includes 24/7 confidential support and access to information on personal fitness, nutrition, career, financial and legal advice; relationship and family support, and overall wellbeing resources.

Responsibilities
  • Support students with diverse needs both individually and/or in a group setting.
  • Provide support for the behaviour, safety, medical and physical needs of a student. Duties may include lifting, toileting, positioning and transferring children and equipment and application of Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) (training provided).
  • Availability to accept assignments on a casual basis during the day and with short notice.
Qualifications
  • Educational Assistant Diploma and/or experience deemed equivalent by the Board.
  • Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma in a related field of study (Child Youth Worker, Developmental Service Worker, Social Service Worker).
  • Experience in working with students with special needs and behavioural disabilities is strongly preferred; school-based experience is considered an asset.
  • Flexibility, patience, empathy and the ability to work closely with students with complex needs, classroom teachers, and Administration.
  • Candidates must be capable of performing the essential physical duties of the position, such as running/walking on uneven ground, lifting, positioning and transferring children and equipment and utilizing Behaviour Management System techniques where required.
  • Access to a reliable method of transportation and ability to attend specific schools.
  • Availability to accept assignments on a casual basis during the day and with short notice.

Note – a Criminal Reference Check is part of the requirement process.
