The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the oldest student association in Canada and has been a central student organization at Queen's since its founding in 1858. Today, the AMS acts as a service, advocacy, and governing body on behalf of all students enrolled in AMS-affiliated programs at Queen's University.

The AMS is a not-for-profit entity created by the Society to ensure its continuing financial viability by overseeing the management of its services and associated financial affairs. It is bound by the By-laws and corporate philosophy of our Mission and Operating statements as set out in the AMS Constitution.

In addition to providing wage-based service staff positions for students wanting employment, the AMS seeks to support the Society's broader objectives through the provisioning of a high quality, relevant range of student funded services, that provide a wide range of employment opportunities and meaningful out-of-classroom learning and skill acquisition experiences for students.

AMS Media Centre Publications and Graphics Assistant Manager

Job Summary

The AMS Media Centre Publications and Graphics Assistant Manager, under the direction of the AMS Media Centre Head Manager, will be responsible for the organization, design, and layout of the AMS Agenda, the Tricolour Yearbook, and all graphic design needs of the Media Centre. This includes creating templates for various marketing materials, updating the website, and overseeing the work of Graphics staff. The contracted hours for this role, under the discretion of the AMS Media Centre Head Manager, may be subject to increase to account for busy periods such as Convocation in Summer, staff training in Fall, and transition and training in Spring.

Job Duties

  • 30 hours/week May-mid September, 25 hours/week mid-September - April
  • Designing, organizing, producing, and distributing the AMS Agenda and Tricolour Yearbook, working with the contracted supplier to design, produce, and distribute the AMS Agenda and Tricolour Yearbook
  • Collaborate with the Purchasing and Production Assistant Manager to design and produce CoursePacks.
  • Creating and updating templates for Media Centre deliverables such as product renders, posters, holiday cards, and components for the website.
  • Creating graphics for clients, and facilitating the delegation of graphic projects amongst supervisors and staff as needed

  • Open availability and flexibility to work nights, weekends, and store openings and closing to meet the needs of the business
  • Highly effective project management, prioritization, multi-tasking, and time management skills to meet deadlines
  • Ability to build and sustain relationships with key business partners and other external stakeholders
