Job summary

Sunnybrook’s Odette Cancer Centre is seeking an experienced ambulatory oncology nurse to provide broad nursing care for cancer patients and their families in both clinic and telephone settings. You will perform health assessments, manage symptoms, and support patients and families with navigation of the health care system.

Qualifications

• Current registration with College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Baccalaureate degree in nursing preferred.
• Experience in oncology and/or acute care nursing is strongly preferred.
• Experience in ambulatory care nursing and/or telepractice preferred.
• Canadian Nurses’ Association certification as Certified Oncology Nurse CON(C) an asset.
• Must be flexible, adaptable, and able to prioritize.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to ongoing education and professional development.
• CPR – Basic provider certification required.

Responsibilities

• Provide ambulatory oncology nursing care for cancer patients and families in clinical environments and over the telephone at the Odette Cancer Centre.
• Perform comprehensive health assessments and develop supportive and therapeutic relationships with patients and families.
• Manage cancer symptoms and treatment side effects; provide teaching and coaching.
• Facilitate continuity of care and navigation of the health care system; support clinical decision making and patient advocacy.
• Collaborate with the interprofessional team to address physical, emotional, practical, and spiritual needs throughout the cancer trajectory.
• Engage in quality improvement initiatives, leadership opportunities, and ongoing professional development.
