Reporting to the Manager, the Ambulance Readiness Technician (ART) is responsible for sanitizing and processing critical medical equipment, restocking supplies on vehicles, performing and documenting vehicle checks, receiving goods, and maintaining stockrooms and work areas to maximize BC Ambulance Service (BCAS) resource availability. Ensure quality assurance and improvement for related items, in accordance with BCAS policies and procedures, prior to and during vehicle shifts.
This position requires working rotating shifts and some overnight travel. Must have the physical ability to perform all functions required to clean, sanitize, and stock ambulances, including proper PPE use and lifting up to 40kgs.
Duties / Accountabilities :
- Carry out primary equipment and supply checks of vehicles and medical equipment prior to use by on-duty paramedics, completing all necessary paperwork. Remove or rotate equipment if found defective or in need of repair.
- Perform routine cleaning, deep cleaning, and decontamination of HIV, Hepatitis, Norwalk, and other similar contaminations on BC Ambulance Service vehicles and equipment, requiring PPE.
- Liaise with Paramedics, Supervisors, and IT to assist in repairing radio and telecommunications equipment on BCEHS units.
- Perform and report preventative maintenance on medical equipment including stretchers, stair chairs, scoop backboards, oxygen and suction testing, glucometers, in accordance with standards, policies, and procedures.
- Perform courier services for delivery and pickup of medical equipment, restocking stations, posting notices, and couriering confidential documents, payroll, and other materials.
- Replenish stockrooms and advise supervisors when reorders are needed by pulling reorder cards. Remove defective or expired stock from vehicles and stockrooms.
- Receive, unpack, and check incoming inventory, ensuring goods meet specifications. Report discrepancies to supervisors.
- Remove garbage and soiled linens from ambulances and work areas; perform basic repairs such as bulb replacement and stretcher locking bars.
- Transport the BC Ambulance Service fleet to and from service centers for operational purposes and occasionally to incidents, including multi-patient events. May also deliver fleet across the Province and return old fleet to Vancouver or Victoria.
- Identify problems, liaise with staff, and ensure quick turnaround of vehicles and equipment to minimize downtime and maximize resource availability.
- Assist with inventory checks, data entry of stock and reorders into computerized systems, and input into other systems as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
Education, Training, and Experience: Grade 10, related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Class 5 driver's license REQUIRED.
