AltaGas - Shift Supervisor, Terminal Operations (RIPET)

AltaGas is seeking a Terminal Shift Supervisor for our RIPET Facility team! Reporting to the Superintendent, Terminal Operations, you will directly lead the shift team in terminal operations and vessel loading activities. Your primary focus is to ensure all work is performed in alignment with AltaGas’ Core Values of safety, collaboration, integrity, inclusion, and learning. This position requires a strong emphasis on safety and a hands-on, in-the-field approach to leading and supervising teams, while adhering to operational procedures and meeting customer requirements.

This position is located in Prince Rupert, BC, and is eligible for fly-in, fly-out, working a 7 days/7 nights/14 days off rotation. Housing accommodations and a shared vehicle will be provided; however, this is not a camp-based position.

Tasks And Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate and support personal safety leadership following AltaGas’ Environment Health and Safety Program.
  • Adhere to all AltaGas policies, standards, procedures, and practices during operational activities.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the union/collective agreement as part of the management team. Ensure compliance with protocols related to workforce supervision.
  • Oversee operations performance, including railcar offloading, LPG refrigeration processes, and VLGC vessel loading.
  • Maintain a strong field presence for railcar connection/disconnection and vessel loading, ensuring best ergonomic practices are followed.
  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained, confirm routine on-shift maintenance is completed, and ensure additional work orders are entered in Maximo for repair.
  • Lead team efforts in equipment lockout/tagout, ensuring proper isolation for maintenance activities.
  • Support Management of Change (MOC) and project development/execution as required.
  • Oversee shift team performance and manage team development.
  • Plan, monitor, and execute training and progression of Operations staff to ensure competency in their roles, in alignment with the Superintendent and as directed by the Operations Coordinator.
  • Support the development and continuous improvement of the training program.
  • Review rail schedules and planned yard movement of railcars between holding tracks and unloading racks.
  • Document, track, and optimize rail and vessel operations to support logistics improvements.
  • Lead incident reporting and investigations, supporting analysis and corrective measures.
  • Ensure facility housekeeping standards are maintained.
  • Manage vacation and time-off requests to ensure appropriate staffing levels for rail offloading and vessel loading targets.
  • Develop, implement, and execute operational procedures, supporting the development of Operational Plans with the Operations Coordinator.
  • Support direct facility operations as needed.
  • Handle Expense/P-Card reports, including coding, compiling receipts, and submission.


Qualifications, Skills, And Abilities

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • 5+ years in Gas Plant or Terminal Operations, demonstrating leadership in planning, directing, coordinating, and supervising a multi-disciplinary operations team.
  • Minimum 2 years of control room operations experience, preferably with DeltaV (other systems accepted).
  • 4th Class Power Engineering certification.
  • Ability to obtain Rail Training certification.
  • Passion for team training and development.
  • Proficiency in Windows-based applications.
  • Strong professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exposure to EHS management systems and PSM systems such as Maximo and Intelex is an asset.
  • Demonstrated time management and prioritization skills, with the ability to make quick, effective decisions.
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to work both independently and within a team setting.


For this position, we offer a competitive salary range of $108,000 to $156,750 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. We also provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off from day one.
