Job summary

AltaGas is seeking a Community & Indigenous Relations Intern for a four-month term in Prince Rupert, BC. You will assist with community engagement, communications, and Indigenous relations initiatives alongside our Prince Rupert team.

Ideal candidates are undergraduate students in Indigenous Studies, Communications, or related fields, with strong communication skills, organizational abilities, and a valid Class 7 driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Enrolled undergraduate in Indigenous Studies, Communications, Public Relations, Community Development, Political Science, Sociology, Business, or a related field.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Valid Class 7 (N) driver's license and access to a personal vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Support community engagement and relationship-building with Indigenous Nations and local communities.
• Assist with planning and execution of community events, stakeholder outreach, and logistics.
• Help develop communications materials and digital content for engagement efforts.
• Contribute to community investment and workforce development program administration.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to support ongoing engagement activities.

About the Role

Are you passionate about building strong communities, supporting meaningful engagement, and making a positive impact? As a Community & Indigenous Relations Intern, you'll work alongside AltaGas' Prince Rupert team to support community engagement, communications, and Indigenous relations initiatives. Through hands-on projects and day-to-day responsibilities, you'll gain valuable experience supporting stakeholder engagement, community investment programs, workforce development initiatives, and corporate social responsibility efforts while learning about AltaGas' operations and growth projects in Northwest British Columbia.

What You'll Do

• Support community engagement and relationship-building initiatives with Indigenous Nations, local communities, educational institutions, and community organizations.
• Assist with the planning and execution of community events, industry engagement activities, and stakeholder outreach initiatives, including driving to event locations to support pre-event set up and logistics.
• Help develop communications materials, digital content, and engagement resources that support community and stakeholder relations efforts.
• Contribute to community investment and workforce development programs by gathering information, tracking outcomes, and supporting program administration.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to support ongoing engagement and communications activities.
• Support special projects while gaining exposure to community relations, Indigenous engagement, communications, and corporate responsibility initiatives.

What You'll Bring

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in Indigenous Studies, Communications, Public Relations, Community Development, Political Science, Sociology, Business, or a related field.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with social media platforms; photography, graphic design, or content creation experience is considered an asset.
• Interest in community engagement, Indigenous relations, stakeholder communications, and corporate social responsibility initiatives.
• Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, communities, and traditions in Northwest British Columbia is considered an asset.
• Must have a valid Class 7 (N) driver's license and access to a personal vehicle
• Local/home town is Prince Rupert, BC or surrounding areas
