We are currently seeking a talented and motivated journalist to uncover impactful community stories in Port Alberni.

If you have a passion for storytelling, a keen eye for detail and a commitment to serving community through journalism, this is an exciting opportunity to make a difference.

The Successful Applicant Will Have Skills In:

• Researching, reporting, and writing compelling news stories, features, and human-interest pieces that resonate.
• Capturing high-quality photographs and videos to accompany written content, enhancing storytelling and engaging readers.
• Conducting interviews with community members, local officials, and subject matter experts to gather information and providing balanced, accurate coverage of news events and issues.
• Collaborating with editors, fellow journalists and other team members to brainstorm story ideas, coordinate coverage, and ensure timely publication of content.
• Staying informed about local events, trends, and developments in Ladysmith and Chemainus, proactively seeking out story opportunities and pitching ideas to editors.
• Adhering to ethical standards and journalistic principles, including accuracy, fairness, and objectivity, in all aspects of reporting and storytelling.

We are looking for someone who prides themselves on being a team player, able to multi-task, and work in a complex digital and print publishing environment. Storytelling will appear on the Alberni Valley News website and surrounding publications, with potential to be published across the Carpenter Media Group network.

This position is supported by an Editor and Group Publisher.
