Job summary

University Health Network (UHN) in Toronto seeks a Temporary Part-Time Food Service Worker to support Nutrition Services at the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute. You will deliver meal carts, assist with tray washing, and help stock and clean food service areas. Shifts include days with weekends, up to 24 hours bi-weekly.

Applicants should have Grade 12 or equivalent, good dexterity, and the ability to multi-task. Certification in Food Service/Handlers is preferred.

Qualifications

• New hires must have grade 12 or equivalent education.
• Food Service Worker Certificate preferred.
• Food Handlers Certificate preferred.
• Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job: lift to 10 kg, loading/unloading, push heavy carts.

Responsibilities

• Deliver meal carts, snacks and bulk supplies to patient units.
• Disassemble soiled patient trays and wash dishes.
• Stock and organize dishes in proper areas; collect soiled racks and return to kitchen.
• W ash and sanitize racks, meal carts, and dish area; manage waste and compost.

Site: Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, University Centre

Department: Nutrition Services

Reports to: TRI Nutrition Services Manager

Hours: Up to 24 Hours/Bi-Weekly

Wage Range: $26.46 - $27.36. Start rate non-negotiable.

Shifts: Days & Alternate Weekends, 08:00-16:00

Status: Temporary Part-Time (up to 8 months)

Closing Date: October 1, 2026

Duties

• Delivering meal carts, snacks and bulk supplies to patient units
• Disassembling soiled patient trays including removing food debris from dishes, separating cutlery and processing soiled dishes through dish machine, re-soaking/scrubbing dishes/pots and pans as needed
• Stocking clean dishes in appropriate areas, collecting soiled dish racks and empty meal carts from loading dock and Patient units and returning to kitchen
• Washing/sanitizing racks and meal carts, cleaning ware washing area and dish machine, handling totes of compostable material and garbage
• Performing cross-functional duties as assigned and/or required; performing other duties consistent with the job classification, as required

Qualifications

• New hires must have grade 12 or equivalent education
• Good manual dexterity and organizational skills
• Good team player
• 6 months practical and related experience
• Food Service Worker Certificate preferred
• Food Handlers Certificate preferred
• Ability to read/understand short notes, brief forms and memos
• Must be able to meet the physical demands of the job: able to lift to 10 kg, loading, and unloading food trucks; pushing heavy food trucks during pick up and delivery of meals
• Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner and produce high quality work while meeting deadlines in accordance with UHN standards
• Exercise initiative and good judgment with ability to multi-task
• Compliance with confidentiality requirements under UHN Privacy Policy
• Effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
• Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies
• Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
• Required to be available to work alternating weekends and statutory holidays and at least 3-week days in a two-week period
• Work in Warm/Humid Conditions
• May be required to work at multiple areas as well as rotating shifts in emergency situations
