Qualifications

  • Health Care Aide or Health Care Assistant Certificate preferred.
  • GYN/surgical clinic experience preferred.

  • Multi-tasking, prioritization and organization abilities.
  • Proficient time management and problem solving with minimal direction.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Competent computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients within reception, waiting room, procedure/exam room, recovery area or washroom as needed.
  • Collaborate with Medical Secretaries, RNs and Physicians to manage patient flow for efficiency and satisfaction.
  • Ensure patients in waiting area are accounted for and assisted as required.
  • Replenish patient education materials in exam rooms and reception areas.
  • Prepare exam/procedure rooms, equipment, supplies and forms for daily activities.
  • Turn over rooms after patient procedures to maintain Infection Control standards.
  • Transport used instrumentation to MDRC and organize for cleaning.
  • Relay patient concerns to Health Care Providers and assist the team.
  • Support safe, best practices and a positive care environment.

Job description

An exciting Permanent Part-Time (up to 0.4FTE) opportunity as a Aide II exists in theSurgical Services Program and Surgical Clinics, reporting to the Clinical Manager (Replacement)

Summary of Duties, but not limited to:
Patient Care
  • Escorts patients within the reception area, assigned waiting room, procedure/examination room, recovery area, or washroom when required
  • Works with Medical Secretaries, RNs and Physicians to determine and respond to patient flow to maximize efficiency and patient satisfaction
  • Ensures that all patients in waiting room have been accounted for and assisted as required
  • Replenishes patient education material within each exam room, central area, physician area and reception area
  • Ensures procedure/examination room is prepared for daily activities and prepares advanced procedure room(s) for each patient procedure i.e. equipment, instrumentation, procedure supplies and forms
  • Turns over the procedure/examination rooms after each patient to ensure Infection Control processes are in place i.e. remove, clean then replace linen on bed, clearing items from the previous patient procedure and brings procedure supplies into room
  • Takes instrumentation to soiled utility room after patient use and organizes for transport to MDRC
  • Relays patient concerns to Health Care Providers
  • Able to anticipate and respond to Health Care team needs for procedures
Department Organization
  • Orders, receives and stocks medical/surgical supplies and linens from MDRC and/Stores daily to maintain supply
  • Supports inventory management through anticipating supplies and managing stock with the Inventory Coordinator
  • Ensure medication and surgical supplies are within the appropriate expiry date (on a monthly basis)
  • Prepares and replenishes hospital requisitions
  • Maintains general neatness of procedure/examination rooms, soiled and clean utility room
  • Maintains organization and cleanliness of carts, equipment and work stations
  • Prepares and organizes specimens for pick-up
  • Performs end of day functions to prepare for next day activities
  • Creates and maintains a safe environment
  • Maintains excellent communication
  • Functions well in a team environment
  • Maintains knowledge of current practice related to Surgical Services
  • May be required to work in all areas of Surgical Services Clinics
  • As a role model and champion you will work to identify and integrate safe, best practices into daily activities to foster the delivery of safe and exemplary care

Qualifications/Skills:
  • Secondary School Diploma required
  • 2 years of relevant experience in a medical/ambulatory clinic setting
  • OR Health Care Aide, Health Care Assistant Certificate preferred
  • GYN/surgical clinic experience, experience with sterile tray set up and knowledge of medical equipment
  • Surgical clinic experience preferred
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment
  • Patient focused, with excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Skilled at multi-tasking, prioritization and organization
  • Proficient time management and problem solving skills with minimal direction
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Competent computer skills
  • Superior in developing patient and workplace relations
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position (frequent walking, standing, reaching, bending and ability to push up to 40 pounds
  • Strong attendance record
