Job summary

TopHat HR is hiring on behalf of a client for an AI Systems & Automation Developer role. It is a hands-on position turning practical AI ideas into reliable tools across multiple businesses, from idea through testing, deployment, and ongoing improvement.

You will work with AI models, APIs, databases, automation workflows, dashboards, and business applications to build solutions that help teams work more efficiently and make better decisions.

Qualifications

• Experience with APIs, databases, and SQL.
• Experience using AI/model APIs and integrating into applications or workflows.
• Experience building a simple interface, internal tool, dashboard, or other usable front end around a technical solution.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, with the ability to break down unclear problems into manageable steps.
• Understanding of software testing, deployment, monitoring, error handling, and maintaining production systems.
• Understanding of AI limitations, privacy, and validation.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain AI-powered agents, workflows, internal tools, and dashboards that solve practical business problems.
• Integrate AI models with existing business applications, APIs, databases, and internal systems.
• Develop automation workflows that reduce repetitive manual work and improve operational efficiency.
• Use model APIs and other AI technologies to build useful, reliable business solutions.
• Create systems that provide source-backed answers, references, and alerts, allowing users to understand where information comes from.
• Build simple and intuitive interfaces or dashboards that make AI-powered tools useful and accessible to business users.
• Work with the Head of IT and business stakeholders to identify useful opportunities, define project scope, and determine practical solutions.
• Implement appropriate testing, permissions, logging, monitoring, and error handling to ensure systems are reliable and maintainable.
• Monitor AI-powered systems after launch and identify opportunities to improve performance, accuracy, and usability.
• Document solutions, workflows, integrations, and key technical decisions.
• Troubleshoot issues methodically and improve systems based on user feedback and real-world performance.
• Stay current with relevant AI tools, model capabilities, automation approaches, and development practices.
• Help teams adopt new tools by explaining how they work and how they should be used.

About the Role

TopHat HR is hiring on behalf of one of our clients, a diversified business group with operations across multiple businesses and industries. They are looking for a hands-on AI Systems & Automation Developer to help turn practical AI ideas into reliable tools used across multiple businesses.

Reporting directly to the Head of IT, you will work on real business problems and take projects from an initial idea or working prototype through development, testing, deployment, documentation, and ongoing improvement.

This is a highly hands-on role for someone who enjoys building. You will work with AI models, APIs, databases, automation workflows, dashboards, and business applications to create tools that help teams work more efficiently and make better decisions.

What You'll Do

• Experience building a simple interface, internal tool, dashboard, or other usable front end around a technical solution.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills, with the ability to break down unclear problems into manageable steps.
• An understanding of software testing, deployment, monitoring, error handling, and maintaining production systems.
• An understanding of the limitations and risks of AI-generated outputs, including accuracy, reliability, privacy, and appropriate validation.
• A high level of ownership, initiative, integrity, and follow-through.
• Good judgment when working with business information, data, AI-generated content, and internal systems.
• A practical mindset — you care about building solutions that are actually useful, not just technically interesting.

You don't need to have experience with every technology or use case listed above. However, you will stand out if you can demonstrate:

• Working AI projects that you can walk us through.
• Experience building AI agents, automation workflows, internal tools, or business applications.
• Projects that integrate multiple APIs, systems, or data sources.
• Experience connecting AI models to real business workflows rather than only experimenting with models.
• Experience building dashboards or simple user interfaces around technical solutions.
• A strong GitHub, portfolio, or project history that demonstrates your technical ability.
• Examples of taking a project from prototype to deployment and ongoing maintenance.
• Evidence that you can work independently, make sensible technical decisions, and follow through.
