Job summary

McAsphalt, Canada’s leading asphalt products and services provider, is seeking a Process Engineer to design, optimize, and support process systems across our facilities. The role includes engineering analysis, project execution support, and driving operational excellence to ensure safe and efficient plant operations.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will mentor junior engineers and lead process improvements, with travel as required to support capital projects, startup, and ongoing

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering or related field.
• P.Eng. with PEO or eligible for registration; minimum 7 years in process engineering or project management in industrial environments.
• Senior-level candidates may be considered for a Senior Process Engineer designation.

Responsibilities

• Perform process design, heat and material balances, and equipment sizing.
• Develop/update PFDs, P&IDs, hydraulic calculations, and control narratives.
• Lead or support FEED, detailed engineering, debottlenecking and process optimization.
• Support HAZID, HAZOP and process safety reviews and compliance.
• Analyze operational data and troubleshoot process issues.
• Define project scopes, budgets, schedules and resources.
• Coordinate contractors, suppliers and construction activities.
• Provide plant support, commissioning and startup assistance.
• Prepare technical reports, design basis memoranda and project deliverables.
• Mentor junior engineers and share knowledge across the team.
• Travel to facilities to support capital projects and continuous improvement.

Job Summary

The Process Engineer will be responsible for designing, optimizing, and supporting process and operational systems across McAsphalt. This role will provide engineering analysis, project execution support, operational excellence initiatives, and plant support activities to help ensure safe, reliable, and efficient facility operations. The level of responsibility will be aligned with the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, with candidates demonstrating senior-level expertise expected to provide greater technical leadership, project oversight, mentorship, and support for more complex engineering initiatives.

Reporting To: Engineering Manager

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform process design, heat and material balances, and equipment sizing.
• Develop and update PFDs, P&IDs, hydraulic calculations, and control narratives.
• Lead or support FEED, detailed engineering, debottlenecking, and process optimization initiatives, depending on project scope and level of experience.
• Support HAZID, HAZOP, process safety reviews, and compliance requirements.
• Analyze operational data and troubleshoot process issues.
• Define project scopes, budgets, schedules and resource requirements.
• Coordinate contractors, suppliers and construction activities.
• Provide plant support, commissioning and startup assistance.
• Prepare technical reports, engineering documentation, design basis memoranda, and project deliverables.
• Support knowledge sharing across the engineering team and, where applicable, mentor junior engineers or technical team members.
• Travel to company facilities as required to support capital projects, plant operations, commissioning, start-up, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
• P.Eng. with PEO or eligible for registration; relevant experience (7 minimum) in process engineering, project engineering, and/or project management within a process, manufacturing, petroleum, heavy industrial, or related environment.
• Candidates with stronger senior-level experience, technical leadership capability, and demonstrated project oversight experience may be considered for a Senior Process Engineer designation.

Salary Range: $110,000 - $140,000 annually. Compensation will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, internal equity, and the level at which the successful candidate is hired.
