Job Description

South Country Co-op is hiring an Agro Driver at our Agro Centre in Cypress County, Alberta.

Reporting to the Agro Manager, the Agro Driver is responsible for delivering excellent customer service, operating semi and pup trailers and loaders, meeting customers, and loading and unloading Anhydrous Ammonia (NH3) and Agro products.

The position involves the safe operation of vehicles, including transporting chemicals and seed, performing general maintenance on trucks, filling out daily logs, completing pre-trip inspections, and reporting discrepancies to the Agro Manager. The Agro Driver will also communicate sales and promotion programs to customers, maintain a professional image of South Country Co-op, and follow safety policies.

Additional responsibilities include pricing, stocking, inventory management, shipping/receiving, and maintaining good housekeeping habits.

Qualifications
  • Valid Class 1 license with a clean driving abstract.
  • Minimum of 1 year’s driving experience (Class 1).
  • 2-3 years of experience transporting dangerous goods; TDG and WHMIS certifications required.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of Agro products and mechanical skills are assets.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment alcohol and substance tests and Driver Evaluation.
  • Must provide a clean Commercial Drivers Abstract.
  • Ability to operate a manual transmission.
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods training (training provided).
  • Experience as an NH3 Driver is preferred but not essential.
  • Understanding of handling requirements for hazardous loads.
  • Ability to recognize hoses, couplings, flanges, and adapters used in loading/unloading.
  • Ability to deliver hazardous materials to various locations, including farms and residences.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office, and map reading skills.
  • Physical ability to climb, work at heights, and lift over 55 lbs.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work within multi-generational teams.
  • Strong commitment to safety and customer service.
  • Good sense of direction and GPS usage skills.
Working Conditions
  • Availability Monday to Friday, evenings, and weekends.
  • Up to 75% of the day spent driving.
  • Climbing ladders and working at heights.
  • Work in various weather conditions and environments.
  • Regular lifting over 55 lbs.
  • Safe handling of Anhydrous Ammonia.
