Job description

Equipment Diagnostics, Repairs and Optimization

Perform all the duties of a Service Technician including:

  1. Removal, disassembly, and reconditioning of components
  2. Complex and difficult diagnostics and repairs on agricultural and turf equipment
  3. May specialize on all types of equipment
  4. Perform a mix of shop and/or road (in the field) work, as required; which includes Precision Ag repairs
  5. Perform any and all service tasks as assigned
  6. May perform machine start-ups
  7. May perform machine optimizations
  8. May assist or support in customer clinics
  9. Assist other technicians with diagnostics
  10. Maintain condition of vehicles, inventory, tools, and equipment in good working order

Administrative/Reporting/Goals

  1. Work toward attaining and maintaining appropriate efficiency, productivity, and labour performance for personal ratings as well as to assist with team/department goals
  2. Maintain a minimum 80% or higher labour performance rating on a consistent basis
  3. Complete all reports and forms required in conjunction with work assignments
  4. Manage work order process from start to complete
  5. Account for all time and material used in performing assigned duties
  6. Follow all safety rules and regulations in performing work assignments

Organization / Department / Team Support

  1. Maintain a clean work area and perform work in a neat and orderly fashion
  2. Build and maintain constructive co-worker relations and effective and productive team dynamics
  3. Ensure all safety regulations and requirements are followed by self and others

Personal Development

  1. Participate in training programs required for the development of skills and knowledge
  2. Maintain current knowledge of John Deere and competitive products
  3. Maintain up-to-date and current product knowledge of related lines
  4. Maintain required technical and behavioural skills

Critical Capabilities

  1. Ability to perform basic repairs and required maintenance using special tools and equipment following Technical Manual procedures
  2. Ability to operate vehicles and equipment used for diagnostic purposes
  3. Ability to lift at least 40 lbs. repeatedly; ability to lift between 40-75 lbs as needed
  4. Ability to work flexible hours, varying shifts, weekends, and holidays, if necessary
  5. Ability to self-manage
  6. Having and maintaining a valid driver’s license is required

Desired Experience and Qualifications

  1. Certified Journeyperson or equivalent
  2. 4+ years of experience performing service repairs
  3. Knowledge of engines, hydraulics, powertrains, air-conditioning, mechanical and electrical systems used in the repair of agricultural and turf equipment
  4. Ability to read, write, and speak effectively with customers and/or other employees
  5. High School Diploma or equivalent experience required
