Qualifications

  • Relevant years of experience in Agronomy, Plant Science, or related field required.
  • Work experience in potato crop preferred.
  • Willingness to learn and grow within a team-oriented environment.

Job description

Job Description

Reporting to the VP, Agriculture Research and Development, the Senior Research Scientist will be responsible for the execution of all operational and technical aspects of research trials including site selection, planning and design of experiments and small plot activities.

Salary – $75,000 to $85,000 plus bonus

Responsibilities

  • Planning and preparation of field trial layouts, maps, ensuring availability of material required for trials
  • Perform field work including planting, spraying, irrigating, scouting, harvesting and grading of field research plots;
  • Crop pest and disease assessment and soil and tissue sampling
  • Ensure that data collection is recorded according to pre-established methodology and data is processed and interpreted through adequate statistical analysis
  • Apply standard quality control procedures to assure accuracy of test results, updating and developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Prepare an annual, monthly, weekly and daily activities schedule to organize time and resources required
  • Create and manage an annual operational activity plan for the Ag Research program including people demand forecasting, cost management, purchasing of materials and equipment required
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Agriculture/ Crop Science/ Plant Genetics/ Agronomy is required
  • Relevant years of experience in Agronomy, Plant Science or a related field is required
  • Work experience in potato crop is preferred
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast paced, team oriented, research environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft applications and database programs
