The mission of BII is to create new life science solutions to address unmet societal or health needs. At BII, we have established a program, Bio Studio, which aims to build life science start-ups based on world-class research. Bio Studio projects are three-year grant funded projects sourced from leading researchers employed at research institutions worldwide. The projects we admit combine scientific novelty, commercial viability, and the potential for significant societal and / or health impact. The goal of the projects is to create a viable start-up company based on the project within the three years.

BII aims to recruit a strong project team for each Bio Studio project, and it is expected that this team will form the core of the future start-up deriving from the project. Apart from establishing a solid Project Team, to be headed up by an Entrepreneur in Residence, BII provides a comprehensive network of industry, investors, and subject matter experts to support the projects.

We’ve launched an exciting new project, muux, focused on malnutrition in LMICs. This innovative project has been initiated by a highly renowned Principal Investigator from UC Davis, California, and represents a significant opportunity to advance deep nutritional technology to target some of the key challenges involved in malnutrition in the Global South.

As part of BII's Bio Studio program, this project aims to transform groundbreaking research into a viable startup company within three years. You will have the unique opportunity to work at the forefront of molecular nutrition and dietary improvement.

By joining the team, you will play an instrumental role in bringing state-of-the-art technology from the laboratory to application in LMIC countries.

Your ownership of our mutual journey will be to :

  • Lead development and implementation of the operational model in a selected LMIC
  • Coordinate and plan the nutritional analyses at selected LMIC
  • Coordinate with EiR and leadership team to align local execution with global strategy
  • Engage with government bodies, NGOs, and private partners in select LMIC
  • Ensure integration of nutritional and agricultural best practices into all operational aspects
  • Report regularly on project progress, budget, and strategic milestones
  • Contribute to risk management and adaptation planning

Your daily work and well-being will be shared directly with the Entrepreneur in Residence, but as a small community with close ties and bright minds, you should be prepared for many cross-functional and inspiring discussions that can help shape your work at BII.

Your Professional & Personal Qualifications

We're looking for a creative problem-solver who's passionate about developing the operational setup of the muux project in our target LMIC. A project manager that can ensure alignment with company management and act as the key point of integration between field operations, strategic planning, and executive leadership. The ideal candidate will bring deep nutritional and agricultural expertise and project management experience to build a robust local implementation structure. The candidate will work closely with the local on-site PM to establish the strategic and tactical focus of the local team. Most importantly, you bring not just technical skills, but also enthusiasm and a growth mindset as we build something meaningful together.

Besides this, you have :

  • Master’s degree in agriculture, nutrition or a related field
  • 5–10 years of professional experience in agricultural and / or nutrition related roles
  • 1-3 years of experience in senior roles within startup or scale up environments
  • Demonstrated expertise in agricultural systems, food value chains, and nutrition
  • Proven experience working in the Global South, preferably in Sub Saharan Africa
  • Strong leadership, project and change management capabilities
  • Track record of cross sectoral collaboration and stakeholder engagement
  • Excellent command of English; knowledge of Swahili or French is a plus
  • Strategic thinker with strong execution capabilities
  • Collaborative and inclusive leadership style
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with diverse teams
  • Highly adaptive and solution oriented
  • You are committed to impact-driven work and culturally sensitive approaches, whilst you thrive in start-up environments.
