Reporting to the General Manager, this role combines strategic planning with hands-on leadership, covering all aspects of production, safety, environmental compliance, budgeting, and team development. The position requires regular travel across Alberta, with a primary focus on Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray, and Lethbridge. You will lead geographically dispersed teams and bring a hands-on leadership style that inspires high performance and accountability.

How You’ll Add Value

  • Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment, ensuring compliance with OH&S, provincial, and federal regulations
  • Mentor and develop site supervisors and operational staff, promoting a positive, team-focused culture
  • Ensure staffing, training, and scheduling meet project and safety requirements
  • Promote team engagement and succession planning
  • Address performance concerns and ensure alignment with HR policies and procedures
  • Responsible for leading regional teams and overseeing operational performance across Alberta, with a focus on aggregate sales and crushing operations. Work with superintendents to coordinate production, maintenance, and logistics
  • Plan and manage stripping, reclamation, stockpiling, and resource allocation to support efficient site operations and long-term sustainability. Develop and oversee preventive maintenance programs to optimize equipment reliability and minimize downtime. Manage permitting and road use agreements for existing dispositions
  • Collaborate with external consultants to ensure operational compliance with regulatory and permitting requirements.
  • Establish and manage long-term aggregate reserve strategies by region to ensure resource stability and support future growth.
  • Lead exploration initiatives in key regions to ensure consistent resource availability for ongoing operations.
  • Lead business development initiatives focused on strategic expansion into new markets and growth areas.
  • Prepare and manage site-level operating budgets and capital expenditure plans
  • Track costs, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), and implement cost-saving measures
  • Lead forecasting, financial reviews, and monthly/annual inventory reconciliations
  • Collaborate with finance and land teams on costing, reclamation, and seasonal maintenance planning
  • Maintain environmental compliance and manage dust, noise, and reclamation activities in alignment with municipal and provincial guidelines
  • Partner with environmental staff to keep permits, records, and audits up to date
  • Build strong relationships with municipal, industrial, and community stakeholders
  • Address customer concerns and ensure product quality meets expectations
  • Engage with industry organizations such as Alberta Sand and Gravel Association (ASGA) to promote company interests and support sector advancement.

What You Bring

  • Post-secondary education in business, engineering, construction management, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years in aggregate or heavy civil operations with progressive leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of aggregate production, mobile equipment, and maintenance practices
  • Proven ability to manage multiple sites and lead geographically dispersed teams
  • Skilled in budgeting, forecasting, and performance management
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Strong conflict resolution skills, with the ability to address issues constructively and maintain positive working relationships
  • Strategic planning capabilities, with a track record of aligning operational goals to long-term business objectives
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions
  • Willing to travel and work out of town for short, fixed-term periods, as needed
