Reporting to the Project Manager – Landscape Architecture , the incumbent will carry out various technical and administrative work related to the design, development and implementation of landscaping.
General responsibilities and goals:
• Based on elements and observations collected by him or herself or by landscape architects or engineers, prepares plans, estimates and specifications for landscaping or landscape maintenance work, in coordination with the specialists from other related disciplines.
• Exercises qualitative and quantitative control over the work or projects carried out internally or by contract; ensures that they comply with approved plans, notices, specifications, regulations, etc.; corrects deficiencies observed on site and notifies his or her superior of the corrections made.
• Carries out preliminary estimates of project costs as well as estimate adjustments as the work progresses; controls the progress estimate and authorizes payment.
• Participates broadly, along with the professional he or she is responsible for assisting, in the various planning, design, development, control and project monitoring work, and represents this professional as needed.
• Performs or verifies calculations or analyses relating to the quality and quantity (e.g., durability, aesthetics, safety) of materials.
• Participates in determining the types of street furniture, play structures, recreational equipment, types and textures for the surfaces of paths, low walls, fences, etc., as well as plants to be used for landscaping.
• Analyzes, comments on and recommends the approval or refusal of drawings prepared in the workshop.
• Carries out various surveying work, such as topographical surveys of sites to be developed, that serve as a basis for landscape architects and engineers in studying projects and drafting working drawings.
• Prepares public tender or proposal documents.
• Performs any other related task.
Job requirements:
The jobholder must hold a college diploma in landscape architecture or in any other field considered appropriate, and must have two years of experience applicable to the position.
• Have a good knowledge of
o spoken and written English and French
o conceptual design, planting plans and architectural rendering;
o materials, plants and methods specific to landscaping;
o preparing quotes, estimating and evaluating work costs;
o the Microsoft Office suite and computer-assisted design (AutoCAD).
• be tactful, calm and courteous;
• work as part of a team;
• solve problems, make decisions and exercise judgment;
• be organized and attentive to details;
• Hold a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
Schedule:
35 hours per week
For the period between Thanksgiving and the 1st Monday of May: Monday to Friday inclusively, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., minus 1 hour for lunch. For the period between the 1st Monday of May and Thanksgiving: Monday to Thursday inclusively, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., minus 45 minutes for lunch; Friday, 8:00 a.m. to noon.
