Role Description
Beacon Technical Builders is seeking Aerial Technicians of all experience levels to join our growing team. This is a full-time on-site role for an Aerial Technician located in Calgary, AB. The Aerial Technician will be responsible for installing and maintaining aerial telecommunication infrastructure, conducting site surveys, and troubleshooting technical issues related to the infrastructure. Key Responsibilities:
Install and service communication towers, rooftops, and various site types for major wireless carriers in Canada.
Climb towers and perform safe installation of steel structures, components, and hardware.
Install and align antennas and cables.
Safely hoist, rig, and lift equipment.
Perform sweep tests and plumb/tension work on towers.
Install antenna and transmission systems on towers, rooftops, and other structures.
Work outdoors year-round, including in severe weather conditions.
Read and interpret construction drawings.
Participate in daily tailboard safety meetings and communicate effectively with crew members.
Support the installation and retrofitting of telecommunication towers and associated equipment shelters.
Experience & Requirements:
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License (required)
Comfortable working at heights
Willingness to travel
Construction experience (asset but not required)
Knowledge & Skills:
Strong understanding of telecom systems (rooftops, monopoles, towers)
Ability to proactively identify and maintain safe work environments
Leadership skills to oversee and direct junior crew members as needed
Ability to read and interpret site plans, engineering specifications, and construction drawings
Experience with rigging, steel erection, line installation, antenna and microwave installation, testing, and troubleshooting

FULL JOB DESCRIPTION:
Beacon is looking for telecom technicians for both the ground and tower crews. You will be able to grow your skillset in multiple directions of telecom, such as cabling, fiber, construction, and equipment programming. This permanent, full-time position includes testing, maintenance, repair, and servicing of various types of radio and wireless equipment, and servicing/construction of telecom towers.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform commissioning of new telecommunication sites according to the implementation schedule
Remove, install, or make repairs to existing communications equipment on the tower and in the communications shelter.
Ensure proper inspection is completed of communications equipment.
Perform site maintenance activities and troubleshoot configuration problems.
Work with NOC at implementing fault management, configuration management, and performance management tools.
Test new wireless cellular products/technology.
Perform field RF measurements and data collection in support of the Radio Network Optimization Process
Install, program, test, repair, and service a variety of technical low-voltage systems.
Interpret manuals, schematics, wiring diagrams, and repair equipment, utilizing knowledge of industry standards.
Demonstrate a keen ability to multitask and coordinate with multiple trades to execute your assigned scope.
Identify potential project risks; implement strategies to control deviations from estimated costs, while maintaining a sense of urgency to meet the needs of business changes.
Report status and be accountable to General and Project Managers

EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS
Communication Technician/Industry Experience: 5 years (Required)
Class 5 driver’s license (Required)
Strong understanding of the processes and procedures for the installation of Fibre Optic Cabling and Terminations.
Basic knowledge of working in 48-volt power plants.
Microwave commission/testing.
KNOWLEDE & SKILLS
Previous experience with wireless communication systems
Previous cabling experience (cat5, cat6, coax, fiber)
Tower climbing/rigging experience.
Must be willing to travel to various locations in and out of province, with potential overnight stays.
Ability to work at heights, off a ladder, and in confined spaces.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. and move up to 75 lbs., as required.
Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills.
Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
Strong diagnostic skills, resolve technical problems, be self-motivated, and calm under pressure.
Self-motivated, positive, and professional attitude.
Certifications that are a benefit to this position, but not required:
Manufacturer Certificates ie. Ericson / Nokia
