Aecon Utilities is hiring an Aerial Lineperson for North Bay, ON, and Arnprior, ON. The role involves constructing and maintaining aerial telecom infrastructure with travel to remote areas. Unionized position requiring union membership after acceptance and adherence to safety standards.

Reporting to the Superintendent, the Aerial Lineperson will be responsible for the construction and maintenance of aerial telecommunication infrastructure. Please note that this position is unionized, therefore it will be a requirement to join the union upon acceptance. This is a mobile project that will require travel and working in some remote areas.

Location: North Bay, ON, & Arnprior, ON.
What You'll Do Here
  • Provide a high level of safety, productivity and support to the line foreperson ensuring quality service.
  • Access various types of public or privately owned property to place cable, strand, anchors, poles, etc. in accordance with technical specifications.
  • Utilize lasher for installation of aerial fiber optic or copper cable using existing knowledge of all required pole hardware.
  • Pull cable or strand by hand or with mechanical equipment.
  • Daily inspection of vehicles to ensure all safety signs, cones, tooling, hardware, etc. are in good condition and on the truck.
  • Set up safe work zones on high traffic roads according to Book 7 standards.
  • Approach all customers in a courteous, professional manner.
  • Apply due diligence in ensuring accuracy in preparation and prompt completion of all necessary documentation (inspections, timesheets, drawings, as-builds, billing, and toolbox talks).
  • Be a positive team member through open communication and active participation in crew tasks.
  • Participate in all Health and Safety efforts including daily tailboard talks with Aerial crews.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You Bring To The Team
  • Experience using Line & Bucket trucks, climbing poles using spurs or ladders, or the ability to learn to do so.
  • Hands-on experience placing cable, poles, down guys, anchors, strand, hardware, and vertical ground wires, or the ability to learn to do so.
  • Ability to read and request locates.
  • Experience in interpreting communication design drawings.
  • A strong commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work independently or as a part of a crew to perform all types of Outside Plant aerial construction and maintenance/repair work.
  • Strong work ethic, self-disciplined, motivated, and organized.
  • Familiar with handling of fiber and copper cables.
  • FTTH, copper, fiber experience is an asset.
  • Valid Driver’s License. AZ or DZ is a strong asset. Clean Driver’s Abstract.
  • Knowledge of CVOR requirements.
  • General physical strength and stamina, and the ability to carry and climb a twenty-eight-foot extension ladder weighing 80 pounds.
  • Work in all weather conditions, day, night, or weekends with possible overnight stays.
  • This role requires travel.

The expected pay range for this role is $28 - $37 per hour as per the current Collective Agreement.

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
