The Role

Coupling deep manufacturing and business process knowledge with an understanding of process, automation, and control issues, the AspenTech professional services organization is uniquely qualified to help customers transform their businesses. With over 25 years of dedicated service to the process industries, we assist more than 1200 companies in achieving significant economic benefits through strategic automation and IT solutions. Our worldwide services team has extensive experience across sectors including oil and gas, petroleum, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and consumer products.

This position requires expertise in Refinery, Olefins, Polymer, or Specialty Chemicals processes, and may also extend into Pulp & Paper or Metals & Mining. It is intended for a qualified engineer to join our team in the US (Houston, Calgary, or remote-based).

Your Impact
  • Review process flow diagrams and P&IDs, understand process operations, lead discussions, and transfer process knowledge effectively to junior engineers.
  • Identify and articulate strategies to address business control problems and design control strategies across multiple processes.
  • Lead the design, testing, and commissioning of APC applications, independently executing all project phases including pre-test, plant test, analysis, and commissioning, leading a team of 2-3 engineers.
  • Understand closed-loop control concepts (computer, DCS, PID control, DMC3 tuning) and assist with controller interface database and configuration.
  • Comprehend process issues and their impact on multivariable control design.
  • Implement complex calculations for effective data analysis.
  • Set up and execute controller simulations for large-scale problems.
  • Engage with customers and serve as a technical lead on various projects.
  • Provide supervisory guidance to multiple project teams executing APC projects.
What You'll Need
  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or equivalent experience; MS or PhD preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in Multivariable Process Control and Optimization.
  • Strong communication and coaching skills.
  • Soft skills in customer management and collaboration with Project Managers.
  • Proven experience in Refining, Olefins, or Polymer processes, either in operating companies or consulting firms.
  • Ability to manipulate and analyze process data, including data collection, transformation, and large-scale analysis.
  • Deep understanding of multivariable control, linear programming, and LP cost calculations.
  • Knowledge of closed-loop control systems, including PID and MVC tuning.
  • Willingness and ability to travel at least 50%, with no visa restrictions.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Optional qualifications: Proficiency with Aspen online/offline tools, experience with AspenTech APC products, and additional language skills are advantageous.
