Job summary

Clean Foundation is seeking a Wildfire Resilience Advisor to lead wildfire resilience projects for municipalities and communities in Nova Scotia. You will apply knowledge of wildfire behaviour, climate adaptation, infrastructure resilience, and community planning to deliver practical guidance and support for climate action.

You will work independently, own projects from initiation to completion, and collaborate with municipal partners, internal teams, and residents to align with program goals

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in forestry, environmental science, sustainability, urban planning, engineering, public policy, or related discipline, or equivalent
• 1+ years experience in wildfire mitigation or emergency management
• FireSmart Level 1, 2 and 3 are assets
• Demonstrated knowledge of wildfire behaviour, impacts and resilience strategies
• Experience working with municipalities, fire departments, emergency management offices, community organizations, or external partners
• Strong analytical, project management, and organizational skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including facilitating meetings and presenting
• Ability to manage projects independently and collaborate with diverse stakeholders
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Ability to complete background checks
• Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

• Serve as a subject matter expert in community resilience, climate adaptation, and municipal planning related to wildfire impacts and mitigation
• Conduct research, assessments, and analyses to support resilience initiatives
• Translate technical information into practical guidance for communities and partners
• Lead and manage wildfire resilience projects from planning through delivery
• Develop project work plans and monitor timelines, budgets, risks, and deliverables
• Build and maintain partnerships with municipalities, communities, and stakeholders
• Facilitate and deliver presentations, meetings, workshops, consultations, and public engagement
• Prepare reports, proposals, funding applications, and project documentation
• Monitor trends, risks, and opportunities related to wildfire mitigation and resilience planning
• Represent the organization in external engagements related to wildfire mitigation and community resilience
• Other duties as assigned

What you’ll be doing

We’re looking for a Wildfire Resilience Advisor to join our team as a subject-matter expert.

As a member of the Climate Department, you will lead the delivery of wildfire resilience projects and initiatives that support municipalities and communities in adapting to climate change.

This role is ideal for someone who has experience and technical knowledge of wildfire behaviour, climate adaptation, infrastructure resilience, and community planning. Using this knowledge, you will work to provide practical guidance to support community-level wildfire action.

We are looking for someone who thrives with independent work and is comfortable taking ownership of projects from initiation through to completion ensuring alignment with program goals, funding requirements, and organizational priorities. This individual will be someone who enjoys networking as they will be building and maintaining relationships throughout Nova Scotia by working closely with municipalities, partners, internal teams, and residents.

Job requirements

We are looking for someone who has experience in wildfire mitigation or emergency management who is eager to support communities with wildfire prevention initiatives.

You are a great fit if you have:

• Post-secondary education in forestry, environmental science, sustainability, urban planning, engineering, public policy, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience including firefighters.
• 1+ years experience in wildfire mitigation or emergency management.
• FireSmart Level 1, 2 and 3 are considered an asset.
• Demonstrated knowledge of wildfire behaviour, impacts and resilience strategies.
• Experience working with municipalities, fire departments, emergency management offices, community organizations, or external partners.
• Strong analytical, project management, and organizational skills.

Working conditions

This role is a hybrid position primarily performed in an office environment that involves extended periods of computer-based work and in field environments including, but not limited to, conducting assessments and engagements.

Frequent travel within Nova Scotia is required to conduct assessments, conduct workshops, or community engagements, often overnight. Travel will require driving.

Physical requirements:

• Extended periods working at a computer (sitting and/or standing).
• Ability to conduct field work outside in a variety of weather conditions.
• Frequent use of standard office equipment including computer, phone, and presentation equipment.
• Ability to travel.
