Job description

Advisor, Regional Crises and Emergencies

Salary: $72,841 - $91,051 - $100,156 per year
Contract: Permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours (core hours 9am-3pm Mon-Fri)
Location: Park Royal, West Vancouver located on the ancestral territories of the Squamish, Musqueam & Tsleil-Waututh Nations.

About the role

Are you passionate about making a difference during critical moments? As an Advisor, Regional Crises and Emergencies, you will lead community-focused responses to health crises and emergencies, addressing challenges like climate-driven events, pandemics, and the toxic drug crisis.

Based within the heart of the communities you serve, you’ll work closely with regional teams, leadership, and partners to design and implement culturally safe crisis action plans. Your role will include developing protocols and prevention strategies aimed at building community capacity and fostering innovation.

We are currently seeking three Advisors to cover the following subregions:

  • South Coast
  • Central Coast

About you
To be successful in this role you will have/be:

Education

  • A diploma or degree in public health, health sciences, disaster and emergency management, social sciences, or other relevant health fields, or an equivalent combination of education, training and professional experience.
  • Any completion of formal training or qualifications in health emergency management or crisis management are assets.

Experience

  • 2-5 years of significant, recent and relevant experience working with First Nations people and communities, including providing advice and recommendations to senior leadership on health and emergency preparedness.
  • Experience in emergency planning or responding to health emergencies within a First Nations context is an asset.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of best practices in emergency mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery, including hazard, vulnerability, and risk assessment processes.
  • Strong understanding of First Nations cultures, traditions, protocols, and healing practices, including cultural safety, humility, and how culture influences communication and health approaches.
  • Familiarity with First Nations communities in the Vancouver Coastal Region and the relationships between FNHA, Regional Health Authorities, and First Nations communities.
  • Knowledge of community health services, governance, and funding related to BC First Nations, and their integration into the broader BC health care system.
