Job description

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Partnerships and Engagement, you will provide advice, plan, and implement partnerships, indigenous outreach activities and Indigenous engagement initiatives to support the NCC’s duty to consult and reconciliation activities with indigenous community members. These include consultations, indigenous community relations, toponomy and other projects. You will provide advice on Indigenous consultations in the context of impact assessments and indigenous traditional knowledge. You will also draft correspondence, develop workshops, analyze feedback and prepare reports to support decision making.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION

A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with an acceptable specialization in Communications, Indigenous Studies, Public Relations, Political Science, Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, or an acceptable combination of education, training and / or experience.

EXPERIENCE

A minimum of three years of experience in Indigenous engagement, stakeholder or community engagement and relations.

  • Experience in project management or event management.
  • Experience developing consultation plans, written and visual materials for various audiences.

KNOWLEDGE

  • of Indigenous communities, objectives, structures and processes.
  • of stakeholder engagement, community relations and public consultation approaches and best practices.

ABILITIES

  • to communicate effectively, facilitate meetings and deliver effective presentations.
  • to manage risks and resolve complex issues.
  • to create correspondence for the public and manage content on digital channels.
  • to interpret and apply relevant policies and legislation.

ASSETS

  • Knowledge of environmental legislation and processes relevant to Indigenous peoples’ engagement and consultation.
  • Knowledge of environmental review processes or urban planning processes (e.g., the Government of Canada impact assessment process, municipal planning approvals, etc.).
  • Knowledge of relevant policies and standard such as the UNDRIP, Accessible Canada Act, GBA+ etc
  • Experience working with federal departments, agencies, Crown corporations and other levels of governance in the achievement of common objectives as they relate to Indigenous engagement and consultation.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance.
  • Position is in the National Capital Region. The person selected for this position must reside within a commutable distance from the workplace at 40 Elgin Street, Ottawa, Ontario.
  • The National Capital Commission offers a hybrid and flexible work environment, all employees are currently asked to work on-site at least two (2) days per week.
