Job summary

407 ETR is seeking an Advisor, Health & Safety (field) to support the Company’s OHSMS with a focus on training and field programs. This on-site role requires evening and night availability for site visits, inspections, and emergency responses.

The ideal candidate holds a related diploma or degree with 3+ years of experience, and may have IHSA/ISO 45001 auditor credentials or First Aid instruction expertise.

Qualifications

• Diploma and/or Degree in a related field from a recognized institution.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience.
• Open availability to complete evening/night contractor visits and inspections.
• Certification in IHSA CORTM Auditor or ISO 45001 Auditor (asset); First Aid Instructor (asset).
• Intermediate computer skills, including MS Office.
• Experience with databases, data entry and record keeping.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a business partner for Highway Operations and Tolling.
• Advise on safety programs (construction safety, working at heights, traffic control, Book 7, ergonomics).
• Prepare materials and conduct weekly toolbox talks.
• Conduct site inspections and audits; monitor contractors, including night shifts.
• Lead or participate in incident investigations and follow-ups with corrective actions.
• Assist with modified duty and post-injury return to work programs.
• Develop and deliver training, including safety orientations and in-house trainings.

Position Summary

407 ETR is looking for an Advisor, Health & Safety (field) who will report to the Manager, Health, Safety, Environment & Wellness (HSEW). The role is accountable for providing assistance and help with the development and maintenance of the company’s Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSMS) with a particular focus on training, technical and field-level programs.

Note: this is an on‑site role requiring evening and night availability for visits and inspections. The role must also be available during emergency situations and incident investigations.

Duties & Responsibilities

• A business partner for Highway Operations and Tolling.
• Advisor on safety programs such as construction safety, working at heights, traffic control, Book 7, ergonomics, etc.
• Prepare materials and participate in or deliver weekly toolbox talk meetings.
• Conduct scheduled and ad‑hoc site inspections and audits.
• Monitor contractors and subcontractors, including night‑shift inspections and audits.
• Lead or participate in incident investigations and follow‑ups, including corrective actions and lessons learned.
• Assist with modified duty and post‑injury return to work program.
• Develop and deliver training, including safety orientations.
• Achieve and maintain the train‑the‑trainer or authorized facilitator certification to deliver in‑house training sessions such as First Aid, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), etc.
• Create and maintain the corporate library of Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Toolbox Talks (TBTs).
• Keep open lines of communication with all stakeholders and advise on associated hazards and recommend controls.

Qualifications

• Diploma and/or Degree in a related field from a recognized institution.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience.
• Open availability to complete evening/night contractor visits and inspections.
• Certification in one or a combination of the following is an asset: IHSA CORTM Auditor or ISO 45001 Auditor, First Aid Instructor, working knowledge of construction safety, working at heights, traffic control, Book 7, etc.
• Intermediate computer user, including knowledge of the MS Office package.
• Skills and experience with databases, including manual data entry.
• Event scheduling, training coordination, training delivery and record keeping.
• Time‑management, multitasking, attention to detail, flexibility and the ability to meet deadlines.
