Description

Located at the Heartland Petrochemical Complex (HPC) the Environmental Advisor will report to the Supervisor, Regulatory and Environment – HPC Operations. This integral role will be accountable for supporting the development, execution, and ongoing operation of the Environmental Management Program for HPC.

Key Activities and Responsibilities:

  1. Provide onsite environmental presence to interface directly and efficiently with all operational units, providing guidance on environmental and regulatory matters for site.
  2. Be readily available in case of events that require environmental support.
  3. Ensure regulatory requirements and best management practices are met by developing, planning, coordinating and managing environmental monitoring programs and associated external reporting.
  4. Facilitate continuous improvement of environmental performance through the assessment of current programs for optimization and enhancement opportunities.
  5. As a member of the HPC Incident Management Team provide onsite environmental support for incident management (available to respond during off-hours).
  6. Ability to work in both office and field environments in different seasons to support operations and site regulatory requirements.

Education, Skills and Experience

  1. Post-secondary education in a relevant field, such as environmental science, environmental engineering, resource management or equivalent.
  2. Class 5 Driver’s license.
  3. 5+ years of progressively responsible experience within an operational setting of a facility or plant.
  4. Experience in the application of provincial and federal environmental regulations & reporting, environmental performance indicators, and knowledge of environmental management systems.
  5. A strong background in the management of environmental monitoring programs relating to water, groundwater, spill response, waste and air considered an asset.
  6. Exceptional analytical, investigative, and organizational skills.
  7. Proven ability to work within large multi-disciplinary teams with a cooperative team-oriented approach.
  8. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  9. Organizationally strong, with an ability to manage multiple tasks, a heavy workload and tight deadlines.
  10. Proficient in MS Office, plant information systems, and data visualization tools (PI Vision, Power BI).
  11. Motivated and willing to take ownership of tasks.

Schedule:
Full time 9/80 schedule
On call for Emergency Response Team.

As this position is identified as safety and security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of pre-employment medical, drug/alcohol, drivers abstract and criminal background check assessments with satisfactory results.
