What You'll Do Here :

  • Promote an inclusive culture that encourages equity, welcomes diverse perspectives, and supports career growth by fostering a sense of belonging.
  • Conduct employee health and safety orientations, including site-specific safety briefings for workers, owners, and clients.
  • Train employees on fall protection, confined space entry, traffic protection, traffic control, WHMIS, respiratory protection, emergency response, and more.
  • Coordinate safety training sessions such as WHMIS and First Aid.
  • Perform workplace inspections and safety audits.
  • Conduct behavioral observations in the workplace.
  • Develop workplace safety plans, including emergency evacuations, fire safety, traffic controls, and fall protection measures.
  • Distribute safety materials, supplies, and equipment to team members as needed.
  • Deliver safety presentations to clients and promote Aecon's safety systems to potential industry partners.
  • Participate as a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
  • Analyze accident trends and conduct incident investigations.
  • Inspect project facilities and recommend corrective actions, including environmental issue management.
  • Collaborate with the Claims Administrator to assist with workers' compensation claims and related activities.
  • Develop return-to-work and modified work programs.
  • Investigate accidents and incidents thoroughly.
  • Mediate health and safety issues to facilitate resolution.
  • Prepare for and assist with external safety audits.

What You Bring to the Team :

  • At least 3 years of experience in a Health and Safety role within the construction industry.
  • Experience in Utilities or Oil & Gas sectors is an asset.
  • NCSO certification or progress toward it is an asset.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and Word.
  • Strong knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety legislation and regulations applicable to construction projects.
  • Knowledge of additional regulations such as WHMIS, asbestos management, designated substances, and smoking policies.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively.
  • Champion of inclusion and diversity initiatives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong relationship management abilities.
  • Flexibility to adapt to a variable work schedule to meet deadlines.
  • Valid G driver's license.
