Job summary

Aecon is seeking an EHS Advisor to promote a health, safety and environmental culture across a major Sicamous project. Reporting to the EHS Manager, you will lead site onboarding, training and inspections to ensure compliance with Aecon’s policies.

You will coordinate WHMIS, First Aid and other safety trainings, develop emergency plans, and liaise with government agencies. Night shift work is required; a valid driver’s license is needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a Health & Safety role within construction.
  • WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid Attendant Level 3 is required.
  • CRSP and/or COR Auditor required.
  • NCSO is required.
  • Strong knowledge of WorkSafe BC legislation.
  • Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy; excellent verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct site-specific safety orientation to workers, owners and clients.
  • Train supervisors and staff on Aecon Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.
  • Deliver training on fall protection, confined space entry, WHMIS, etc.
  • Coordinate training such as WHMIS, First Aid, Forklift, Propane.
  • Conduct workplace inspections and audits.
  • Perform behavioural observations in the workplace.
  • Update MSDS as required.
  • Develop workplace emergency plans (evacuations, fire, traffic controls).
  • Distribute safety materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Give safety presentations to clients.
  • Promote Aecon safety system to potential clients.
  • Participate in Joint Health and Safety Committees.

What Is The Opportunity?

Aecon, in partnership with EAC, has been awarded a contract to construct the new R.W. Bruhn Bridge, located in Sicamous, BC. This project will include a new four lane bridge featuring a 3-meter wide pedestrian and cyclist path, 1.9 kms of highway, intersection improvements and the removal of the old bridge. This will be an opportunity to work in the beautiful Shuswap region of South Central, BC and be part of collaborative team to deliver an important infrastructure project for the community of Sicamous and the BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

Reporting to the EHS Manager, the EHS Advisor will be responsible to actively promote a health, safety and environmental culture to all levels of employees with the policies and procedures of Aecon’s Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.

What You'll Do Here:
  • Conduct site-specific safety orientation to workers, owners and clients.
  • Training supervisors and staff on Aecon Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.
  • Training employees in fall protection, confined space entry, traffic protection, traffic control person, WHMIS, respiratory protection, emergency response.
  • Coordinate training such as WHMIS, First Aid, Fork lift, Propane etc.
  • Conduct workplace inspections and audits.
  • Conduct behavioural observation in the workplace.
  • Update Material Safety Data Sheets as required.
  • Develop workplace plans – such as emergency evacuations, fire emergency, traffic controls, fall protection.
  • Distribution of safety materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Safety presentations to clients.
  • Promoting the Aecon safety system to potential industry clients.
  • Participate as a management member of Joint Health and Safety Committees.

  • Co-ordinate activities of site-safety coordinators.
  • Working with the Claims Administrator assists with workers compensation claims and associated activities.
  • Develop return to work and modified work programs.
  • Mediate health and safety issues for resolution.
  • Liaise with Government agencies.
  • Prepare and assist with external safety audits.
  • Coordination of environmental issues.
  • Gather and provide statistical information to estimating for tender packages.
What You Bring to the Team:
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience in the construction industry in a Health and Safety role.
  • WorkSafeBC Occupational First Aid Attendant Level 3 is required.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) and/orCertificate of Recognition (COR) Auditor required.
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) is required.
  • Strong knowledge of WorkSafe BC legislation.
  • Ability and experience working night shift.
  • Background in Training and/or Education and or experience delivering EHS Training programs to individuals and groups
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent meeting and training facilitation.
  • Adaptable and flexible to an ever-changing environment.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driver's abstract.

The expected pay range for this role is $90,000 - $105,000 per year
