Job summary

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the construction industry in a Health and Safety role.
  • Strong knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Construction Projects.
  • OHS experience within Oil & Gas projects is an asset.

The Safety / EHS Advisor will be responsible for actively promoting a health, safety, and environmental culture among all levels of employees, in accordance with Aecon’s Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.

What You'll Do Here :
  • Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.
  • Conduct employee health and safety orientations and site-specific safety orientations for workers, owners, and clients.
  • Train employees in fall protection, confined space entry, traffic protection, traffic control, WHMIS, respiratory protection, and emergency response.
  • Coordinate safety training such as WHMIS and First Aid.
  • Conduct workplace inspections and audits.
  • Perform behavioural observations in the workplace.
  • Develop workplace plans, including emergency evacuations, fire emergencies, traffic controls, and fall protection plans.
  • Distribute safety materials, supplies, and equipment as needed to team members.
  • Conduct safety presentations to clients and promote Aecon safety systems to potential industry clients.
  • Participate as a visitor member of Joint Health and Safety Committees.
  • Study and analyze accident trends.
  • Inspect project facilities and recommend corrective actions, including environmental issue coordination.
  • Collaborate with the Claims Administrator to assist with workers' compensation claims and related activities.
  • Develop return-to-work and modified work programs.
  • Mediation of health and safety issues for resolution.
  • Assist with external safety audits.
What You Bring to the Team :
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the construction industry in a Health and Safety role.
  • OHS experience within Oil & Gas projects is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Construction Projects.
  • Knowledge of other regulations such as WHMIS, Asbestos in Construction, Designated Substances, and Smoking in the Workplace.
  • Ability to work independently and proactively.
  • Champion of inclusion and diversity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong relationship management abilities.
  • Flexible schedule adaptability when required to meet deadlines.
