Job summary

Aecon Foundations is seeking a Safety Advisor to promote health, safety and environmental culture across projects and locations, based in Toronto, Ontario. You will support the Foundations division with policy compliance and incident prevention.

Responsibilities include conducting orientation, training, inspections, and audits; developing safe work plans; coordinating EHS documentation; and liaising with clients and regulatory bodies as required. Mobility across Canada is expected.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in construction health and safety.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, with tact and diplomacy.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to train and facilitate safety topics and meetings.
  • Valid driver’s license and mobility across Canada-required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct safety orientations for workers, owners and clients.
  • Train employees on the Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.
  • Coordinate training for fall protection, confined space, WHMIS, and more.
  • Perform workplace inspections, observations and audits.
  • Update safety data sheets and plan site safety measures.
  • Prepare safety material distributions and client presentations.
  • Investigate incidents and support return-to-work programs.

Position Overview

Aecon Foundations is a leader in the Canadian Foundations industry. From shoring systems to foundation piling of all types; Aecon Foundations brings the Aecon advantage to all of our market sectors and acts as a strong partner from project initiation, design development, field testing and execution.

TheSafety Advisorwill be responsible to actively promote a health, safety and environmental culture to all levels of employees with the policies and procedures of Aecon’s Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.This role will support our Aecon Foundations division and is located inToronto, Ontario.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct safety orientation to workers, owners and clients.
  • Train employees on Aecon Health, Safety and Environmental Manual.
  • Train or co-ordinate training for employees (e.g., fall protection, confined space entry, WHMIS, respiratory protection, emergency response).
  • Conduct workplace inspections, behaviour based observations and audits.
  • Update Material Safety Data Sheets as required.
  • Develop worksite safety plans – such as emergency plans, environmental or site safety plans.
  • Distribution of safety material, supplies and equipment.
  • Safety presentations to clients.
  • Promoting the Aecon safety system to potential industry clients.
  • Conduct studies and analyze EHS data trends.
  • Recommend & monitor corrective actions.
  • Assists with workers compensation claims.
  • Develop return to work and modified work programs.
  • Incident investigations.
  • Mediate health and safety issues for resolution.
  • Liaise with Government agencies as required.
  • Prepare and assist with external safety audits.
  • Coordination of environmental issues.
  • Gather and provide EHS based statistics.
Required Knowledge and Experience
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years’ experience in the construction industry in a Health and Safety role.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Technician (CRST), National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) and/orCertificate of Recognition (COR) Auditor preferred.
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent meeting and training facilitation.
  • Adaptable and flexible to an ever-changing environment.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driver's abstract.
  • Mobility is essential, able to work on various project locationsacross Canada which are often remote.
