Created in 2015 to align, lighten and modernize infrastructure, the Technology & Infrastructure (T&I) team is the backbone and the future forward arm of CBC/Radio-Canada. This is a hybrid position with a mix of in-office and remote work. Work arrangements will be discussed with hiring managers per departmental guidelines.

Your Role

The Advisor, Digital Streaming is primarily responsible for the continuous improvement of our video streaming and distribution, with focus in three critical areas: standardized encoding and video delivery that is aligned with industry best practices; revenue optimization through Dynamic Ad Insertion and interactive ad delivery; quality control and continuous improvement through Digital Presentation services across owned & operated and partner platforms.

This position contributes to the implementation of strategic plans for Digital Presentation & Distribution, under the strategic direction of Technology & Infrastructure, and in line with CBC and Radio-Canada’s digital strategies. Working closely with the Senior Manager of Digital Presentation & Distribution, the Advisor of Streaming will collaborate with our partners, including Media Solutions, Digital Products, Infrastructure Support and Engineering, to iterate and optimize existing technology, infrastructure and workflows at the intersection of our strategic priorities, our mandates, and our operational and technological realities.

The successful candidate will have in-depth knowledge of distribution platforms and encoding technology and stays abreast of the evolving media landscape and our audience’s behaviour. They will build out a roadmap that meets our business and technology requirements while reflecting industry trends and privileging audience experience. They will use metrics and analytics to inform decisions and opportunities for improvement and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Oversight and identification of continuous improvement opportunities in our video streaming and distribution.
  • Contributes to the evolution of the department through research, proofs- of-concept, risk assessment and business cases.
  • Influence live-stream and video-on-demand activities and operations for CBC and Radio-Canada.
  • Standardizes encoding and video delivery aligned with industry best practices including initiation and oversight of related initiatives.
  • Optimizes and evolves technical revenue delivery through Dynamic Ad Insertion, interactive ad delivery and other initiatives in collaboration with senior departmental management and Media Solutions.
  • Identification and influence over enhanced quality control and related continuous improvement of monitoring across owned & operated and partner platforms.
  • Collaboration with partners in Media Solutions, Digital Products, Infrastructure Support, and Engineering to advance Digital Presentation goals and add value to the corporation.
  • Iteration and optimization of existing technology, infrastructure, and workflows.
  • Constructs roadmaps that meet business and technology requirements while reflecting industry trends and prioritizing audience experience.
  • Directs work for the Digital Presentation & Distribution team.
  • On behalf of the Senior Manager, will influence and develop technology and related project planning and execution.
  • Jointly with other members of management, operationalize and execute CBC/Radio-Canada’s strategic priorities around digital strategy, which includes human resource, departmental structures and resource planning.
  • Contributes to strategic initiatives tied to increasing digital revenue and engagement.
  • Oversees technical troubleshooting with support teams and other partners for innovative and unique solutions to problems in an evolving and complex delivery platform.
  • Acts as delegate for Sr Manager, especially in regard to technological and project planning.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve the quality of experience for audiences and improve overall effectiveness and efficiency within the department.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in business or product planning.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in video streaming or adjacent fields at a senior level (analyst, product manager, advisor).
  • Fluent in English, proficiency in French an asset.
  • Knowledge of digital advertising, video encoding and distribution technology and workflows, OTT and connected TV platforms, user experience, change management.
  • Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Office, Lucid Chart.
  • Strong critical thinking skills that are applied to sustainable and scalable improvements and solutions.
