Job summary

CMHC is seeking an Advisor, Cloud Infrastructure Design and Engineering to lead cloud architecture across public cloud, hybrid, and on‑premises environments. You will translate business needs into scalable, secure designs, shaping modernization roadmaps and major technology investments.

You will guide cloud service selections, governance, and operational readiness, driving secure, observable, and cost‑efficient infrastructure outcomes across the enterprise.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent).
• At least 10+ years IT experience, with 5+ years in senior technical roles.
• Extensive Azure, cloud infra, hybrid environments, design governance and operations.
• Strong knowledge of IaaS, PaaS, IaC, capacity planning and architecture.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate emerging cloud services and technologies to support business objectives and roadmaps.
• Conduct risk, cost and operational analyses to guide cloud strategy and investments.
• Design cloud-centric solutions balancing security, scalability, resiliency and cost.
• Ensure designs comply with security, privacy, regulatory and OSFI requirements.
• Research and pilot new technologies; contribute to modernization initiatives.
• Define and enforce cloud standards, patterns, policies and guardrails.
• Establish secure foundations for AI platforms, including landing zones and RBAC.
• Provide senior technical leadership and mentorship across teams.

About the role

Join the Infrastructure and Operations team, in the Advisor, Cloud Infrastructure Design and Engineering position.

The Advisor, Cloud Infrastructure Design and Engineering is a senior technical authority responsible for defining, governing, and continuously improving the organization’s cloud and infrastructure platforms across public cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments. The role ensures infrastructure solutions align with business objectives, IT strategy, security, operational requirements, and enterprise standards by establishing cloud architecture principles, design standards, reusable patterns, reference implementations, and governance guardrails.

Acting as the technical design lead, the Advisor translates business and technical requirements into scalable, secure, resilient, observable, automated, and cost-effective cloud solutions, while shaping cloud strategy, target-state architectures, modernization roadmaps, and major technology investments. Working closely with infrastructure leadership and cross-functional teams, the Advisor provides expert guidance on cloud services, platform selection, design trade-offs, and operational readiness, setting the technical direction for how cloud platforms are adopted, integrated, secured, and operated across the enterprise to drive consistent, sustainable, and high-performing infrastructure outcomes.

What you’ll do:

• Evaluate emerging cloud services, infrastructure platforms, and technologies to support business objectives, operational needs, and future-state architecture.
• Conduct technical, operational, risk, and cost analyses to inform cloud strategy, infrastructure roadmaps, and investment decisions.
• Design cloud-centric solutions that balance security, scalability, resiliency, availability, supportability, performance, and cost optimization in collaboration with key stakeholders.
• Ensure all cloud and infrastructure designs comply with security, privacy, risk, resilience, regulatory, and OSFI requirements, while continuously identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Research, validate, pilot, and recommend new technologies, vendors, and services, while contributing to cloud and infrastructure strategy and modernization initiatives.
• Define, govern, and enforce cloud infrastructure standards, design principles, reference architectures, reusable patterns, policies, operational guardrails, and API platform requirements.
• Establish secure and scalable foundations for AI platforms, including landing zones, networking, identity, access controls, data access patterns, observability, and compliance requirements.
• Provide senior technical leadership through design governance, the Cloud Infrastructure Design Forum, mentoring, stakeholder influence, risk management, and trusted advisory support across infrastructure, platform, security, application, and delivery teams.

What you should have:

• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
• At least 10+ years of IT experience, including 5+ years in senior technical roles, with a proven track record of delivering enterprise-scale solutions, architecture, and technical roadmaps.
• An extensive expertise in Azure, cloud infrastructure, and hybrid environments, including cloud platform design, validation, governance, and operations.
• A strong knowledge of application platforms, middleware, virtualization, Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), capacity planning, and platform architecture.
• A hands‑on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Linux/UNIX environments (e.g., Red Hat, AIX), and designing scalable, resilient containerized platforms.
• An experience enabling DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and cloud-native engineering practices.
• A deep understanding of enterprise networking, data platforms, database infrastructure, cloud security, identity and access management, encryption, monitoring, compliance, and resiliency.
• An expertise in designing and governing AI platform infrastructure and API management platforms (e.g., Azure AI Services, Azure API Management), including landing zones, networking, RBAC, security, scalability, observability, operational supportability, and governance.
