We seek an Advisor, Process Safety, to oversee daily operations at BC Works, an aluminum smelter. Your role involves implementing, coaching, and monitoring Process Safety standards to ensure a safe, compliant environment.

This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented leader to help implement and maintain Process Safety standards, standardize processes, and drive continuous improvement in safety and compliance across the site.

Reporting to the Principal Advisor, Risk Management Atlantic, and working Monday to Friday, your responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring safety in line with Rio Tinto standards and promoting company values.
  • Leading and supporting the deployment of Process Safety standards at BC Works.
  • Facilitating hazard analyses and implementing corrective actions.
  • Participating in incident investigations, identifying root causes, and applying corrective measures.
  • Training and mentoring teams on Process Safety protocols.
  • Collaborating with the centralized Process Safety team to standardize practices.
  • Reporting safety metrics to management for ongoing support and decision-making.

What you’ll bring

  • A commitment to safety for yourself and your team.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Process, Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, or related fields; advanced degrees or extensive experience considered.
  • 10-15 years of relevant Process Safety experience in industrial settings.
  • Strong knowledge of risk management and hazard analysis techniques (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP, Bow-Tie, ALARP, LOPA).
  • Experience in incident investigation and corrective actions.
  • Effective collaboration and stakeholder influence skills.
  • Practical problem-solving abilities for safety challenges.
  • Leadership and facilitation skills, including leading safety reviews.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Valid B.C. Class 7 driver’s license or equivalent.
