Job description

Position Description:

The Medical College of Wisconsin's Department of Neurosurgery is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to support Neurosurgical services located in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin at the Froedtert South FPPH Campus. MCW Department of Neurosurgery aims to advance neurological surgery through world-class care, groundbreaking research, and innovative education.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will work as a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, contributing to program administration, patient care, safety, research, quality improvement, and teaching.

The Ideal Candidate will be a new or experienced clinician/APP eager to join a collaborative academic practice at MCW. Responsibilities include providing direct patient care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Location:

Froedtert Pleasant Prairie Hospital - near Kenosha, Wisconsin

In this role, you will:
  1. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams for diagnosis and treatment of neurosurgical conditions, including documentation.
  2. Order, perform, interpret, and communicate diagnostic procedures and tests.
  3. Perform procedures beyond core privileges as identified by neurosurgical services.
  4. Facilitate communication with patients, families, and staff to ensure continuity of care.
  5. Attend training and meet regulatory requirements, including those of the privileging institution, CMS, and The Joint Commission.
  6. Evaluate quality outcomes and participate in developing quality indicators.
  7. Stay updated on trends in the PA and/or Nurse Practitioner fields through education and literature.
  8. Work in both ambulatory and inpatient environments.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical exams, identifying findings and status.
  • Order, perform, interpret, and document diagnostic procedures.
  • Write progress notes, procedure notes, and orders accurately and timely.
  • Develop and monitor treatment plans.
  • Educate patients on their conditions and treatments.
  • Perform procedures as trained and credentialed.
  • Document in EMR and other necessary documentation.
  • Collaborate with physicians and healthcare providers.
  • Educate and counsel patients and families.
  • Attend required training and meet regulatory standards.
  • Stay informed on current trends and developments in the field.

Minimum Education: Master's in Nursing for Nurse Practitioners or Bachelor's in Physician Assistant Studies for PAs.

Minimum Requirements: Eligibility for Wisconsin licensure and certification, including RN, PA, or NP licenses, ACLS, BLS, DEA, with preferred acute care experience.
