Job summary

Electronic Arts in Canada is seeking an Online Software Engineer to build networked game experiences for EA Sports titles. The role focuses on prototyping, planning, implementing, and maintaining features for the world’s largest interactive football platform, EA Sports FC.

You’ll join a team led by the Development Director and work with a Technical Lead to estimate, build, and improve projects, delivering excellent game experiences from client UI to backend services.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of experience in software development with strong proficiency in developing high-performance C++ applications.
  • Experience developing and debugging multi-threaded/concurrent architectures.
  • Experience with networked applications or features (client/server and/or peer-to-peer).
  • Familiarity with database technologies (e.g. MySQL, SQL, Redis).
  • Knowledge of networking protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, UDP).
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent training and professional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Leverage EA’s central technologies to implement server features, components, and services.
  • Create and maintain client code to support features and improve multiplayer experiences.
  • Optimize client and server online systems to improve latency, reliability, scalability, performance, and memory.
  • Design and iterate on architecture and infrastructure improvements for live systems and workflows.
  • Work closely with partner teams to stand up and maintain online infrastructure and services for the title.
  • Own experiences through the full stack, from UI in the game client all the way to the backend services and databases that power those experiences.

The Online Software Engineer will help build networked game experiences for EA Sports titles. We are looking for engineers who enjoy prototyping, planning, implementing, and maintaining amazing new features and technology for the biggest sports video game franchise in the world, EA SPORTS FC. This role is ideal for an experienced C++ engineer who enjoys solving challenging real-time systems problems, mentoring engineers, and leading technical execution without being the primary architect for the organization. You will report to the Development Director and work with the Technical Lead to estimate, build and improve projects. You will be focused on delivering excellent game experiences through efficient and effective code, from the customer-facing experience through to the backend services that power those experiences.

  • Experience shipping and supporting multiplayer or live service products.
  • Experience working with modern game engines such as Frostbite, Unreal Engine, Unity, or proprietary engines.
  • Experience working with Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo gaming platforms.
  • Experience with dedicated servers, matchmaking systems, telemetry, and online platform services.
  • Experience using Perforce, Git, or similar version control systems.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The ranges listed below are what EA in good faith expects to pay applicants for this role in these locations at the time of this posting. If you reside in a different location, a recruiter will advise on the applicable range and benefits. Pay offered will be determined based on a number of relevant business and candidate factors (e.g. education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, or business needs).

PAY RANGES

Pay is just one part of the overall compensation at EA.

For Canada, we offer a package of benefits including vacation (3 weeks per year to start), 10 days per year of sick time, paid top-up to EI/QPIP benefits up to 100% of base salary when you welcome a new child (12 weeks for maternity, and 4 weeks for parental/adoption leave), extended health/dental/vision coverage, life insurance, disability insurance, retirement plan to regular full-time employees. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonus and other incentive programs.
