Job summary

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking an experienced Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join the Major Trauma Ward. The ANP will provide autonomous clinical care, diagnose, treat and prescribe for patients with complex needs, and lead on education and service improvement within a multidisciplinary team.

You will work under NMC standards, manage admissions and discharges, and support policy development while improving patient outcomes across the Major Trauma Centre.

Job description

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) to join the Major Trauma Ward team at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. Working across professional and organisational boundaries, you will manage the complete clinical care of patients within the Major Trauma Ward, applying advanced clinical knowledge, expert decision-making skills and autonomous practice. As a clinical leader within the multidisciplinary team, you will assess, diagnose, treat and prescribe for patients with complex and multi-dimensional needs, while supporting the delivery of high‑quality, evidence‑based care in line with NMC standards and Health and Safety legislation. You will work closely with the Major Trauma Ward Consultant and wider healthcare team to facilitate effective patient assessment, treatment, transfer, admission and discharge within the Major Trauma Centre.

1 x Permanent Role & 1 x Fixed Term Role (9 Months)

36 Hours (Monday to Sunday 12hr Dayshifts)

Key Responsibilities

The Advanced Nurse Practitioner will provide autonomous, high-quality clinical care to patients within the Major Trauma Ward, undertaking comprehensive patient assessments, history taking, physical examinations and mental health assessments. The post holder will utilise advanced clinical reasoning to diagnose and manage complex patient presentations, request and interpret diagnostic investigations, formulate treatment plans and prescribe medications where appropriate. Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, the ANP will have the authority to refer, admit and discharge patients within agreed clinical areas and contribute to the efficient coordination of patient care. In addition to clinical practice, the role involves leading and developing evidence-based practice, supporting policy development, promoting patient-centred care, contributing to service improvement initiatives and ensuring compliance with professional, legal and organisational standards. The post holder will also support education, mentorship, research and audit activities, helping to develop the workforce while contributing to the ongoing enhancement of patient outcomes and the Major Trauma Service

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job

• Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
• Advanced Nurse Practitioner qualification or equivalent advanced practice accreditation.
• Independent Non-Medical Prescribing qualification.
• Advanced clinical assessment, diagnostic and decision-making skills.
• Extensive experience managing patients with complex and acute clinical needs.
• Knowledge of evidence-based practice and clinical governance principles.
• Understanding of relevant NHS Scotland, NHSGGC, NMC and Health & Safety legislation, policies and procedures.
• Ability to request, interpret and act upon diagnostic investigations.
• Experience of multidisciplinary team working within acute healthcare settings.
• Commitment to continuing professional development and lifelong learning.
• Experience of teaching, mentoring and supporting healthcare professionals and students.
• Knowledge of quality improvement, clinical audit and research methodologies.
• Ability to contribute to policy development, service innovation and workforce development.
