Job description

WinSport Summer Camps is seeking a dynamic and passionate individual for the position of Advanced Freestyle Coach. If you have a genuine interest in working with youth, developing athletes, providing guidance to young coaches, and oversight on our summer freestyle facility we invite you to apply.

In a progression focused summer training environment you will further develop and refine athletes freestyle skills on trampoline and dry slope, as well as airbag. You will work closely with our freestyle summer camp instructors, providing them with mentorship and guidance to achieve safe progression and reach their goals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide coaching for our 3-day Advanced Training Freestyle Camps across all venues.
  • Oversee Summer Camp Freestyle Coaches following of safe progression, throughout sessions.
  • Open and close Summer Freestyle Centre facilities (Airbag, Dryslope, Twin Trampolines, Super Trampoline) for external and internal clubs.
  • Assist with executing external club check-in, including checking waivers and athlete attendance lists prior to using Summer Freestyle Centre.
  • Monitor weather and inform clubs on-site of weather closures.
  • Complete facility opening and closing checklists with e-compliance each day.
  • Assist with summer camp set-up and take-down as needed.
  • Assist with administration and coordination of facility bookings as needed.
  • Be mindful of the inherent risks associated with skiing/snowboarding and conduct work and self accordingly.
  • Understand the inherent risks within the context of terrain parks and be mindful of developing and demonstrating skills safely.
  • Understand the inherent risks associated with the use of freestyle training facilities: Trampolines, Super Tramp, and dry slope and conduct work and self accordingly.
  • Make decisions that consistently put your safety, and WinSport guests’ safety first, following WinSport safety policies and procedures.
  • Safely provide lessons to all guests tailored to their skill level and goals based on training from CSIA or NCCP/Freestyle Alberta.
  • Plan, lead, and modify sports-based programs daily, operating both independently as a group leader and collaboratively with others.
  • Ensure the Alpine Responsibility Code and Terrain Park etiquette is covered and abided by in all snowboard lessons.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, and maintain accurate class cards, including recording each child’s secure pick-up code for safety.
  • Mediate conflicts amongst participants, consistently and fairly using the principles of healthy play training to minimize lost play time.
  • Deliver clear and concise lesson content that is well thought-out and intentional for the guest’s needs and goals.
  • Demonstrate leadership by providing quality instruction and a positive guest experience, in all camp activities.
  • Understand the LTAD and Sport for Life sport development models and how they apply to the group you are instructing.
  • Utilize positive-first feedback strategies that empower guests and fellow instructors.
  • Adjust communication and skill development strategies to appropriately fit the needs of the guest, including level, age, and interests.
  • Assist with the accommodation of guest needs in every situation possible, with a mindset focused on guest service, problem solving, and adaptability.
  • Demonstrate a safe work practice at all times by adhering to all WinSport safety policy and procedures and ensuring one’s own safety is preserved along with the safety of co-workers, direct reports and WinSport guests.

Qualifications

  • Available to attend site specific training and orientation (June 3rd)
  • Must be available Tuesday-Thursday for 9 out of 10 weeks during the operational calendar from July 2 to August 29.
  • Availability for scheduled shifts between 11:00 am – 05:00pm Tuesday– Thursday.
  • Opportunity to work Monday and Friday as well as weekends.
  • Current criminal record check with vulnerable sector search.
  • Freestyle Fundamentals course and Air 3 (minimum) required.
  • Must have previous experience in instructing freestyle snowboarding.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Experience instructing youth developing freestyle skills and providing mentorship to instructors.
  • Experience working with children and youth in camp or day program environment is an asset.
  • Valid Freestyle Alberta membership required (Valid July 1 2024- June 30 2025).
  • Current First Aid and CPR C is required.
  • Safety conscious mindset.

Physical Demands

  • The job is frequently expected to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing more than 20 lbs (without the assistance of mobile, powered equipment).
  • Physical effort requiring manual dexterity is frequently required (i.e., between 25% and 75% of time on the job).
  • Physical work pace and/or exertion requires somewhat rapid movement and/or effort to 'keep up' and brings on a moderate amount of physical fatigue.
  • Work outdoors in variable weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Maintain a high level of positive energy throughout the day.
  • The job is frequently expected to lift, carry, throw, push, or pull objects (sporting equipment).
