Job summary

Serpent River First Nation is seeking an Adult Mental Wellness Worker in Ontario to engage individuals and groups and promote optimum mental health. The role involves addressing addictions, family issues, stress, and aging-related concerns within a community context.

Responsibilities include assessing client needs, developing care plans, coordinating with families, and providing individual or group programming while maintaining client confidentiality and ethical standards.

Qualifications

  • University Degree or College Diploma in Social Services.
  • Minimum of two years experience in clinical counselling.
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License and willing to travel.
  • Proficiency with Excel, computer software and office equipment.
  • Be able to work overtime to meet deadlines and/or emergency situations.
  • Ability to work as a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Valid Ontario Class 'G' Driver's License with a clear driver's abstract.

  • Maintain the level of professionalism expected by the Serpent River First Nation as outlined through the Policies and Procedures manuals.
  • Uphold the ethics of their positions, as it relates to the Social Services Code of Ethics and the Community Wellness Team’s values and principles.
  • Assess and identify client needs for mental health counselling services.
  • Work with the client in the identification of a plan of care.
  • Work with families of client’s seeking services.
  • Make referrals for those individuals who are outside the scope of practice.
  • Ensure effective coordination of case management systems while ensuring protection of client information, as per policies.
  • Provide aftercare treatment plans for those individuals who have completed an addictions treatment program.
  • Provide individual or group programming that addresses family violence.
  • Ensure effective coordination of case management systems while ensuring protection client information, as per policies.

Position Summary

The Mental Health Worker position is to engage and work with individuals and groups to promote optimum mental health. The position requires helping individuals deal with addictions and substance abuse; family, parenting, and marital problems; suicide; stress management; problems with self-esteem; and issues associated with aging and mental or emotional health.

Position Duties

Cultural & Community Knowledge
  • Knowledge of and respect for Anishinaabe history, culture, teachings, and values
  • Knowledge of the Seven Grandfather Teachings
  • Ability to understand Ojibwe is considered a strong asset
Additional Requirements
  • Clear Criminal Record Check (CPIC); Vulnerable Sector Check may be required
  • First Aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain
  • WHMIS certification or willingness to obtain with the first three months of employment
