Job Purpose

The Adult Mental Health Therapist works within a multidisciplinary team to provide prevention, assessment, referral, clinical counselling, and follow-up services to Enoch’s community members in need. The therapist develops care plans tailored to individual needs, integrating western medicine and traditional wellness practices. They play a pivotal role in supporting clients to navigate complex challenges, promote emotional well-being, resilience, and personal growth. By facilitating a safe and supportive environment, they empower clients to explore and address mental health concerns, develop coping strategies, and build healthier relationships. The therapist also promotes mental health awareness to destigmatize mental illnesses, fostering a community where individuals feel valued, understood, and supported. Services extend to family members as needed and may include psycho-educational workshops and presentations. The therapist supports mental health initiatives at the community level and collaborates with other health and support services to deliver comprehensive Indigenous addiction and mental health services.

Education, Experience, and Requirements

  • A master’s degree in clinical social work, psychology, occupational therapy, or related health professional qualifications with a specialization in mental health is preferred.
  • A bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, psychiatric nursing, or equivalent training & experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in mental health service delivery, preferably within First Nations communities or with Indigenous populations.
  • Experience working within the Alberta Mental Health Act.
  • Additional training in threat/risk assessment, trauma response, and brief intervention approaches.
  • Training or certification in therapeutic modalities specific to adults, youth, and families (e.g., play therapy, land-based teaching).
  • Current registration with the applicable professional body in Alberta.
  • Valid Alberta Driver’s License.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check.

Working Conditions

The therapist works in an office environment, typically Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Evening and weekend work, as well as travel, may be required, adhering to Enoch Cree Nation policies.
